Default help !!

Hello. I'm new on here and have a problem.

My wife bought me an XJ8 3.2 1997 for my 50th birthday. And it is in showroom condition And drove beautifully. I put it in to storage for 3 months. When I went to get it the battery was flat. So we jump started it. It started immediately and was running sweetly.
The problem is its stuck in limp mode and saying gearbox fault, and stability failure. Also the interior lights aer permanently on and all lights are flashing when switched on.

Please advise me what to do.

Thanks
Chris.

These cars very sensitive to a lack of battery voltage. You need to have the battery fully charged first and then see what happens.

Then we can progress further.

Welcome to the forum Chris,

I hope you jump started it correctly using the method detailed in the handbook? These cars have a lot of sensitive electronics which don't respond well to spikes.

+1 on the battery, these cars are VERY fussy about voltage and battery condition.

A battery that would be OK on 90% of other cars will just give a Jag a brain fart, and cause all sorts of weird/random faults, or lights to occur.

The symptoms you describe are typical flat/ knackered battery traits.

I agree with Andrew having been a member of jaguar clubs for a few years now, a bad battery can cause lots of problems. if I were you I would get a new one, for the sake of a £100 or less

+1 on everything above - take that battery off, make sure the boot is kept open (unless you are sure the boot lock works with the key) short the plus to earth on the leads, and fit a new battery.. you may well find all your problems go away..

Default thanks

Thanks for the replies and advice given. I disconnected the battery and fully charged it. Now the alternater is charging. The interior lights don't flash. But when I rev the engine, the dashboard illumination goes out and charging light comes back on. Also it says after the dash lights go out gearbox fault and asc fault. Any ideas.

Sorry about the delay in replying. But I work away from home a lot recently.

Check the ground points in the engine bay are free from corrosion, clean and tight also the ground from the battery.

Have a load test done on battery. Might show good voltage but was stored for 3 months and we do not know how old battery is. There is a date code on battery. recharging the battery only lasted a little while, new battery is recommended. if it is a newer battery by you, will be in warranty, if previous owner bought battery, no warranty.
