Default Help / advice on an XF S

Help- 2016 XF 6 3.0 V6
Hi all
Thinking of going to get an XF S - 2016 - 3 litre V6
Unsure if it’s right decision need some pointers

The car has 23k miles on it which seems to good to be true
It’s diesel and reports 40-50mpg
Is this accurate?

£21k
Or 380 a month to finance

Who makes the engine for this model?
I understand they used ford engines in older models, is this car a genuine jag engine

Would be interesting to here some thoughts and opinions
On the fence with it but it’s abs stunning

I can't tell you if this is the right decision for you, only you know your situation and what matters to you.

If your main concern is mpg then Volkswagen Polo 1.4 TDI BlueMotion will get you double whatever the Jag will do. It takes way more effort to move nearly 2 tons of Jag, and obviously it varies massively depending on how you drive it.

Can you get 40+mpg from it? Gliding effortlessly along a motorway like you're on the sofa, then yes. Put your foot down and use some of that Jag power and response, then no. And really, whats the point of having that power at your feet if you don't use it sometimes.

You could easily buy an Audi A6 for around the same, or even less money, it will give you better mpg, better on-board tech, and easier/cheaper to fix because they share the same parts with Skoda's and VW. But they're just not a Jag - they don't have the kerb appeal that a Jag has in (my view). In my wife's Audi I feel I'm in control of a soulless spaceship, with a thousand computers doing everything and a million things I can get it to display on the various instrument panels. Its a nice drive, but its not a fun drive. Even my 5 yo gets a bit despondent when we're going out and we pile into the Audi instead of the Jag.

I think Ford made this engine for JLR in partnership with Peugeot Citroen group, that doesn't make it not a "genuine jag engine", it is specifically designed for JLR. I think JLR swapped to a new engine design around 2015/16 when they moved over to the Ingenium range, however I don't think they fitted the the version you've mentioned to the XF's so its probably the original engine design (this could be wrong, but that's my passing understanding of it).

That's a very fair appraisal.

The question comes down to which is more important. Do you really want fuel economy or do you really want a Jaguar? If the Jaguar is a whim then perhaps look elsewhere. If it's an itch then scratch it because you could spend the rest of your life regretting never having owned one.
