Hi all, just a little fine tuning to the timings on the day, please see below...…….

As we have so many coming from far and wide, and lunch has been put back just a little, we can afford to leave just a little later. Hopefully there may be 2 or 3 convoys converging on the meeting point at KFC in Penrith, this will give everyone time to gather and mingle prior to jumping off for the run to Langley castle.

The revised plan is to meet at KFC, Bridge Lane, Penrith, CA11 8HW which is just off Jctn 40 of the M6 Link
We'll be looking to meet there at 10.30am and congregate, gathering the convoy together in preparation for the run

We'll be leaving KFC at 11.00 am for the run. The designated route will be along the A686 from Penrith with the ultimate destination being Langley Castle hotel. The Castle offers a choice of traditional afternoon tea / confectioners afternoon tea, or, wait for it...….Gentleman's afternoon tea! ( quite suitable for a Jaguar owner don't you think? )

The route is the A686, A road worthy of driving allegedly, see here...... www.drivingroads.co.uk/hartside-pass-a686

"The actual Hartside Pass is only small part of this route, but the whole of the A686 is an excellent road to drive, so why just stop at once you have done the pass, complete the whole road and have a huge smile on your face after getting to the A69 near Hexam."

The route takes around an hour which should see us at the Langley Castle Hotel for around 12.00pm there or thereabouts, with lunch starting at around 1.00pm

This will allow time to park up and greet old weel kent faces and new alike, and no doubt see some beautiful cars. A little mingling / socialising and or checking out the castle will take us to 1.00 pm before you know it and afternoon tea.

I will have the forum banner with me and hope to have it displayed and for all to sign their names for posterity.

Afternoon tea done n dusted, a little craic / banter, probably looking to disperse around 3pm - 4pm and head our separate ways

I'll send out reminder texts with all this info shortly, but please keep checking into the forum post
Thanks

Jim

Hi Jim
Many thanks for organising a brilliant day out. Sorry we were not on your convoy from Penrith to the Langley Castle Hotel, but we were just about to board the car and set off when I couldn't find my jacket with wallet and phone inside. Much panic ensued, but we eventually found I had left it in my daughter and fiance's new house yesterday. They have to do it up a bit so are still in their flat in Nantwich. A quick blast over to Nantwich retrieved the jacket and we set off and arrived at KFC @ Penrith at around 11.15.
Following our afternoon tea, we went along a B road that took us south along the Allen Valley to Cowshill in Weardale. From there a short drive to St John's Chapel where we took a minor road south to take us over the moors to Teesdale. From there we drove to Middleton-in-Teesdale, then the B7276 to Brough, then the A685 to Tebay and the dreaded M6 motorway to the south ! Wonderful views, lovely scenery, sun shining, what can one ask for more ? The M6 proved to be its usual dreadful self with an accident north of Preston giving a 5 mile jam, but despite this we were home at 18.30

The XE is running very well, and if anybody wants a small Jaguar I can recommend them, but do go for the non-Sport versions if you want comfort. Mine has the Comfort suspension and it's as good as my old XJ. We were in Scotland last week and somebody whalloped the off-side rear door then legged it, so something to get fixed next week hopefully at not too much cost.

Once again, many thanks for your efforts, they are much appreciated !

All the best

Fraser and Leslie

Well, what a day that was!

Langley castle run / meet event Sunday 14th July was always going to be a fun day, but I think worked out eventually just a little bit better than we'd hoped for

It's the nature of the beast for these events that numbers are always a very fluid thing, we lost some members along the way and gained a few others here n there, all worked out about even in the end

On the day, JohnandhisJags had gearbox trouble and had to turn back unfortunately, 1955Davidr was feeling ill and just could not be with us ( here's hoping you're a little better David )

Mrs C arrived home around 07.20am after nightshift and had a quick freshen up and we were off to Bothwell services. I'm ashamed to say I think I was the last there, everyone had beaten me to it and were duly waiting, raring to go, even XKRDavy, who had not slept in this time lol.

We set off and had a gentle run south towards Penrith, picking up Trooper along the way ( waiting silently on the on ramp, ready to pounce and join the 13 strong convoy, a quick comfort break at Gretna services and back on the road.
We arrived at Penrith 3 minutes behind schedule, so not too bad.

Everyone was pretty much already there and much bantering / socialising ensued, big bear hug for Rich, Jimbo looking very buff as Rich has previously said ( all very worrying! )

Danny ( Pegasus3710 ) feared a slow puncture at this point and so it was topped up for the run. It turned out to be a little worse than that and although he made Langley castle and tea etc, it was an early bath and heading for home to get it sorted.

Rich headed the convoy with Jimbo behind and myself with the convoy behind, we kept it slow for a few miles for the convoy to fully form. I had said to everyone at the start, it was a straight run and to get there in whatever manner you wanted, some may be faster / slower than others etc.

With rich still taking it slow for quite a while an opportunity presented itself and so I gunned it and went for it, around 2 car lengths behind he saw me too late in his door mirror and the V8 growled briefly before realising it was too late, the diesel had won
So much for a V8

A few miles later he was nowhere to be seen and looked like Simon was behind, that gorgeous green bonnet shining in the sun, seems like there was a railway museum / exhibition or similar that he took interest in?

The convoy was split, some slower, some faster but the road was great ( apart from bloody miles of loose chippings AGAIN ) and we wafted along, Langley castle appearing on the radar at almost exactly 12pm

We all got out and parked as best we could, space was at a premium and so there was a dozen or so together and a similar amount parked together at the side of the castle.
The first thing was to get the forum banner pout up with the help of Jimbo and for all to sign for posterity, pretty full now going back a few years from previous meet events.

The weather was great all day, no real hint of rain, reasonably sunny and warm and as usual, everyone just mingled and socialised very easily. It was great to see quite a few of the old weel kent faces such as Trooper, Caldean, Fidelthecat, Dadzadonkey, Rapala, Alec Escolme, XKRDavy, JimboV8, Ashanti, Glenn65, Pegasus3710, Super350, John9285, Scottishblue, MarkFY and Fraser Mitchell.
All have been to meet events over the last several years and are stalwarts of the forum and these events.

Here's a few pics of the day...

Some of the newer faces ( to me at least ) these past few years and some for this particular meet such as JimDoc, DaveRichardson, Davidincumbria, Steve, Jodel, Rik of the westie, Davoid, Flatcap, Scollins and Gordon Johnstone.

It was especially nice to see a much larger proportion of wives / girlfriends, other halves there, a really good showing all round.

We had Gentlemans afternoon tea, which on first inspection didn't look as if it would fill much, but to be honest it was actually more filling than expected and the quality was excellent. I think most were quite satisfied generally and there was as much coffee tea refils etc as you wanted, the service was pretty spot on too, couldn't really fault them.

The chat flowed and everyone seemed to have a good time. Outside a little later we all admired Rich's pole, it was a big one with a flag on it lol
I did admire his new wheels ( which he managed to keep secret ) and they really suit the car, fair play, good choice.

First time seeing Jimbo's V8 in the flesh and can see why he's lovin it, Flatcap with his new purchase waxing lyrical about it in the gents ( as far as any Yorkshireman waxes lyrical about anything lol )

As usual there were loads of people I didn't seem to be able to spend much time with, or view their cars as much as I would've liked too, apologies all round. I really just don't know where the time goes sometimes.

Forum decals were handed out to those that wanted them for their cars / toolboxes / lockers etc and the banner signed by all I think, a few good pics of it too nestling in the trees and surrounded by forum members.

There were a few earlyish departures as they had to be somewhere else after lunch, but quite a few stayed on for a wee while, before we left too, leaving just a couple or 3 Jags at the end, all headed home after a good day out, some miles on the clock ( some faster than others ) some good food, good company and some nice automotive examples.

I arrived home around 6.30pm and had to give the Jag a quick going over to remove the many insects that adorned the front end / screen / mirrors etc before I could settle down

Thanks to Jaguarforums for the support as usual, the decals and the banner, all go towards making the day what it is. Lastly, thanks to you all for coming, hope you all enjoyed the day and maybe we'll do it again soon.

Cheers
Jim

Looks like it was a great event, I just got back on the forum today after a bit of a break to check out if there was still time to register, only to find it was too late. I have been putting in massive hours of late to finish the merc (3 years work) which is now complete, so looking forwards to next years event.

Such a shame you couldn't make it RD, but there's always next year.
Mercs looking good.
