Hi, recently bought a 2004 X Type 2.5 Sport. Runs great until I get to 3000rpm then engine shudders and cant drive through it. After deccelarating down from 3000rpm it goes fine until I get 3000rpm when same thing happens.
Garage have replaced choke housing and repaired "faulty wire" but fault remains. Amber engine warning light constantly on dash with occassional red triangle "power train failure" showing.
Please help...

Hi Clansman, have a look at the EGR valve, I had the same problem, also check the hose going from the EGR valve to the inter-cooler, a small hole could cause the same fault.

Thanks for the advice codafile5. Will check these out. Was your engine shuddering at exactly 3000rpm every time? This is indicating to me that the engine management unit is shutting the transmission down at the same point every time. Booked car into Jag dealer tomorrow so will post a follow up soon...hopefully with a definitive solution.

 

Hi Clansman, to confirm, yes at 2700-3000 it was shuddering like mad, everyone told me it was the turbo but I took it to my local garage and he sorted it right away he'd seen this before, he did tell me that when the police had jaguars, they changed the EGR every 12 months over the same problem. it might not be the same fault but the symptoms seem the same, best of luck, be good to know how you get on, BTW the cost of the job was 35.00Pound a new turbo your looking at 400.00 pound +.

 

Thanks again for the info codafile5. Yeh, symptoms are very similar. The thing that surprises me is that my car develops this engine shudder at exactly the same point every time - bang on 3000rpm - so that indicates to me that it is an electronic fault ie the engine management unit is shutting the engine down at exactly the same point then it runs perfectly once you dip below 3000rpm. Very frustrating. Picking car up today so will post an update later.
