engine swap for S-type R
So my 2005 s-type r is getting long in the tooth and after pricing out what it would cost to rebuild I started looking around. I found that the ford 5.0L coyote engine is basicly the same engine (wonder were they got the design) and without the SC has almost the same hp output. The big question is whether it will bolt up to the ZF 6hp26 transmission, or would I have to change trannys also? They use the manual ZF tranny in the trucks, so I'm thinking it might.

First off, the Coyote engine is very different than the 4.2L Jaguar and 5.0 Jaguar engines.
You should do a Jaguar forum search on engine swapping. Lots of threads on what can/has been done.
In a nut shell, if you are able to physically fit the engine/trans, the challenge will be the electrical. Engine control module is linked to the body control module, transmission control module, ABS, TCS, and Instrument cluster. Nobody has hacked the Jaguar ECM to get it to run properly with other engines, or figured out how to get a Ford ECM on a Coyote engine to talk to all the other Jaguar modules.
It will probably cost you as much or more to integrate the Coyote engine to an STR as it would to rebuild the STR engine.
