Fair Lakes, 05/12/13
Nice weather, and a good turnout on this Mother's Day.
We had only two Jaguars there today, Bev S's XKR Coupe, and my XK Coupe.
Let's make sure we have a great Jag turnout next week, 05/19/13:

Matt O. of RRT Racing brought a Dinan 550i demonstrator. 550hp, 600lb/ft of torque, AWD - wow!

Yes, I am a regular at both Katie's on Saturday, and Kohl's on Sunday. I will warn you - if you want to get a 'good' parking space at Katie's, you will have to get there by 6:30AM - no later than 7AM. The layout is not one big lot, like Kohl's - Great Falls Village (where Katie's is located) is arranged with the shops and restaurants in a big square, surrounded by narrow strips of two facing rows of parking. The two main lots can fill up fast, and there are a couple of businesses that have set up clearly marked 'no parking' zones.
I really like both of these meets, for different reasons. Katie's was originally conceived as a way for a core group of car guys - many of them doctors - to get together and talk cars early on Saturday. Integral to this idea was always the understanding that they were all out of there by 9:00AM, to get work done. This happens to be a problem with the current large turnouts at Katie's - people show up late, and stay way past 9:00AM. This annoys the other shopkeepers, who need parking spaces for their customers. Get there early, and leave by 9:00AM, and enjoy the amazing collection of cars.

The first folks arrive at Kohl's on Sundays between 8:00 and 8:30AM. Because it's one big lot, with plenty of room, there's no competetive need to get there and stake out a 'good spot'. That's why I have set up my occasional one-marque get-togethers (for Lotus, and last week for Jaguar) at Fair Lakes. It's easier to set up a separate area, to keep your cars together. Selfishly, I like that for photo purposes.

P.S.: We will be doing another Jaguar get-together at Fair Lakes for some Sunday in the fall.

A nice, warm morning for the first Fair Lakes C & C of June brought out the masses! A good showing of Jaguars, helped a bit by Bobert bringing both his new XKR convertible, and his slightly-less-new XKR coupe. That, along with Bob W's Lister, a Mk X, and a "just-stopped-by-for-coffee" XJ made for a good group.

Margo:
The Fair Lakes Cars & Coffee happens every single Sunday, as long as it's not actively raining, or snow is on the ground. It starts between 8:00 - 8:30AM, and goes until people are tired of talking. Almost every week, I'm sure there are people who stay until 11AM.
We will have another big Jaguar event sometime in the fall - I find more than two marque-specific events per year is too much. (I do two Lotus events, and will do two for Jaguar this year.)
The variety and quality of the cars at this event are very good, every week.

What a marvelous day! The surprise appearance by the S1 Elise, owned by Rick and Sharon, was a highlight. This is one of the Sun International Honda-engined conversions. Rare and beautiful, I just love this car! 240 RWHP, 1600 lbs. We hope they bring this car out more often. A bonus was that he has a Nurburgring sticker on the rear of the car... because he has driven this car on the 'Ring.
We talked this morning about the fact that the Elise S1's designer, Julian Thompson, wanted to design a minimalist sports car - like a motorbike with 4 wheels. I pointed out that Julian owned a Dino. The 5th pic shows a photo my wife took, years ago, at the LOG in Ohio. I see similarities in shape and some details of the S1.
We also had three Jags in attendance, the Mark X, my XK Coupe, and a matching Emerald Fire XK convertible.
Bob W. drove his new-to-him white 911. Chris N. brought his gorgeous Healey. Mark Franke had his Lotus Esprit.
