Today, 1/12/14, was the first clear weekend day of the year. Icy roads, plus sand- and salt-covered roads kept people away the first weekend of the year. This past week, single-digit temperatures, as well as snow, sleet and freezing rain in the DC region had many of us wondering when we'd ever have a decent weekend day for a C & C. This was that day. Clear skies and early morning temperatures rising quickly from the high 30's into the high 40's proved to be too good for many of us to resist.
The Corvette guys led the way, and we even had four 90's-era ZR-1's in attendance. (I had the only Jaguar there today, though...)

Well, all the salt that was on the streets Saturday somehow disappeared. Oh, wait - it's coating my car's wheel wells.
Clear skies and streets brought out a good amount of people and cars today.
People like the later start of this Cars & Coffee - we don't get under way until between 8:00AM - 8:30AM on Sundays, and a fair amount of folks stay until 11:00AM. See what turned out today. Hats off (but gloves on) to the guy the arrived on a BMW motorcycle, and his friend who had the TR6 with the top down!
I had the only Jaguar in attendance, but forum member Bobert drove his F550, and his wife brought her GT350H.

A cold morning, with remnants of snow and salt everywhere. You'd think that this Cars & Coffee would be a bust.
Far from it! We had a pretty good turnout, with an interesting mix of cars, and lots of enthusiastic people. (My Jag is in the shop, so I had the Range Rover Evoque as a loaner.)

Interesting Washington Post article on the amount salt on the roads recently:
Welcome to Salt City, where cars, sidewalks, and shoes bear winter’s briny crust - The Washington Post
Bob,
Any idea if or when we might have the Jaguar meet this Spring?

Alan: I just sat down and figured out the schedule. The first British car show of the season, Britain On The Green is Sunday, April 27th.
We will hold A Pride of Jaguars III on Sunday, May 4th at Fair Lakes.
I'll have more details in the coming weeks. Put it on your schedule, and let your Jaguar friends know!
Here are some pictures from the two APOJ events last year -

Cold and cloudy, but no precipitation, and (at least early), no breeze. Plenty of nice cars and hardy owners. (No Jaguars there today, though!)
On the Prowler, I had never noticed the repetition of the oval dashboard feature, through the oval rear window.

From time to time, I think we all wonder about what goes on in familiar places when we are not around. It's the basis for 'if a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound', as well as the idea behind those anthropomorphized (Google it) cows in 'The Far Side' comics. It was this same curiosity that made me go over to Fair Lakes this morning, despite the fact that there were snow banks on the roads and parking lots, well over 5 ft. tall. I drove my 'bad weather' car, and got there late - 10:00AM. Also, I didn't bring my good camera - after all, who would be there on a day such as this? I found out - lots of people! Surprisingly, not just the 4WD variety.

The mid-winter doldrums - people responded to the relatively warm temps, and fairly clean roads.
First picture - Fair Lakes Rule #1: Don't park under the 'goose bleachers'. Lots of people & cars, and a good variety. I even let Bobert park his F355 next to my Elise. (Damned nice of me, huh?)
Bev's XK was there, and we had a nice Mk IX in attendance.
The last picture is of a Porsche 944 with a Chevy LS1 installed.

When I left the house this morning, the temperature was 40 degrees, which was 23 degrees warmer than yesterday. Because the forecast is for rain this afternoon, followed by possibly heavy snow tonight and tomorrow, lots of people decided they needed to come out.
The extent of British cars there today - Matt O drove his Sport Elise, and I had my XK Coupe.
As if we needed a reminder of this rough winter, that last picture is of the snow still lingering next to the parking garage at Fair Lakes.

At this point, after all the snow and cold, a clear day - event a pretty cold one - is a reason to celebrate. Today's turnout was a good one.
No Jaguars today - in fact, I think I had the only British car there today. I really like the variety of cars we see here.
Come on out - you're missing the fun!
