I'm in the market for a good Jaguar mechanic in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota. I may have stumbled upon a decent one for now, at a Goodyear, of all places, in Minnetonka. I thought the guy was kidding when he said he was "excited" to work on my car, but the mechanic who did the work genuinely loves these cars. I've been taking cars to that shop for over ten years now, and have always had good luck, but I do like my options.

North Coast Exotics, Cleveland OH
I'm going to throw out another recommendation for North Coast up in Cleveland.
After reading through the forums, I decided to give Earl a call about replacing my timing chain tensioners. As an ASE certified technician myself, I really appreciated his in-depth explanation of the entire process. He stocks Jaguar OEM parts, uses Jaguar specific tools and has personally done thousands of timing chain tensioners on our cars. This is by no means a spotless white glove, state of the art shop. What makes this place really shine is the competency of their technicians, and the passion Earl has. When you own a luxury car its very easy to find a technician to gouge you on prices, Earl doesn't do that because he truly enjoys working on them. North Coast's price to replace my tensioners was 1/4 of what my local Jaguar independent quoted me. All in all I can't stress enough just how good this place is, and the guys who work there are. If you take your British or Italian car there, you wont be disappointed!

Detroit Area Jag Tech
My jag guy went over to Aston Martin therefore I searched this site and found Euro Motors in Windsor. Take the tunnel. Had my brother scan my car with his OBD II scanner bought the parts from jag bits. Except for the upper plenum and lower manifold gaskets buy Felpro. Changed pcv, gaskets upper and lower, that pesky elbow underneath the manifold, all radiator hoses because I had a coolant leak, as well as bleeder hose with the "T". Very reasonable cost especially taking advantage on Canadian exchange rate, and professional service. Euro Motors is who we have chosen as our jag specialists. Very knowledgeable. A week later we put her out on our auto bahn ( MI Expressways...lol) and she flew like the jaguar cat. Smooth and lightening fast. Changing those parts I can see a significant gas to mileage ratio. No more drinking premium gas.

I own 3 Jaguars now and owned many Jaguars over the years, The Auto Doctor in Southfield Michigan is the place to go, they always worked on British cars and specialized in land Rovers & Jags Bill Horning the manager was a former Tech from Jaguar of Troy and there are many other qualified technicians working there, the latest hire in 2013 is Jim that worked in Jaguar of Novi and Troy for 26 years
They believe of doing it right and using OEM parts but have other good options
They are using Autologic software so they can pull codes and program the latest cars

I'm looking for a good independent shop for my '04 xj8 in Columbus, OH. I tried Acceleration Auto on N High St but I'm not overly impressed. Any recommendations out there? I've seen a few for the Cleveland area but prefer not the travel that far if I don't have to.
I also think my car has 'the lurch' and may need to be re-flashed. Is that a dealer only thing or can an independent do that?
Thanks! ^-^

Finally found a shop in Columbus I actually trust - Toy Barn. They're a high-end shop and a bit pricey, but it's worth it. They offer complementary loaners when available; best to make an appointment though. They've never tried to up-sale anything or recommend unnecessary work. They're not fast, but the work gets done right! They've always been honest with me. The mechanic will occasionally take me to the work-bay to show me things that need attention or not - being a car person I love this!
