Well, I live in Virginia, but I have an office in Concord NH. I am up at least 2-3 times a month for a few days at a time.

European Auto in Rye always seems to be busy, not sure how many Jaguars he works on though. Small local shop that I pass by routinely. You may want to check with them

I've been using Precision Auto on Bartlett St. in Portsmouth and have been happy with them. I checked out Brit Bits in Rye, but as they work on older cars, (mine is only a '94) they recommended Precision, partly because Precision is familiar with the V-12's.

It kind of balances out. VA to NH (500 miles twice a month), other days (25 feet) to my home office.

BillC

yes I would say good things about Precision as well, and recently had my XJR there. Just haven't gone down the repair route or chosen a shop to do the repairs yet. Had my XJR almost a year now, so far so good.

Default 2 Snows or 4?

A guy I was speaking with, who had an S Type said he just put two snow tires on the rear and did just fine in the snow. What have people found with that?

Thanks,

JohnK

I have 4 snows mounted on 18 inch wheels for my 2004 XJR. I do have an SUV for serious winter driving, so could not comment further on how it handles in deep snow

RyeJag, I am in MA (no. of Boston) but I'm also looking at 04 XJRs in the area (and beyond, since I have to).

Any chance you are ever "down South" that I could check out your car? I could also travel to you. I'd appreciate it very much.

JohnK, I run studded snows on my 98 XK8 in the winter and call it a snow cat. Until the snow is high enough for the under carriage to start plowing, I can keep up with the pesky AWD subarus, and look much better doing it. She has no problems dealing with NH winters at all with the new snow sneakers.

I am not sure if the S has DSC or not.
If it does, then all 4 wheels have to have the same tires, 4 snows or 4 regulars. The amount wear, size and brand should also be about the same on all four.
The concept is the computer reads how fast the wheels are turning and the steering angle. Going straight all 4 wheels should be rotating the same RPM's. If not then it assumes your are drifting or hydroplaning and compensates for it to keep the car stable. It gets weird if you are not drifting or hydroplaning.
