XJR Rear Air Shocks
Are the comfort and sport rear shocks interchangeable? I have a 2004 XJR but its only driven occasionally so I don't care about the sport mode. Also, If you replace the rears with the coil over replacements, how do you keep the light from coming on? Thanks in advance for advise.

the whole point behind CATS is to provide “ soft “ ride qualities a majority of the time and switch to “ stiffened “ ride qualities on demand.
Nonetheless, to answer your question, yes many have switched to coil overs. And there is a fuse that need be removed to disable CATS and the error messages you may receive. Be sure to remove the fuse for the air suspension as well.
Personally, and learned through experience, I never understood the transition. Another value of the air suspension to me was the programmable different ride heights I could set, 1 preference for summer, another for winter.
Cheers.

Comfort and Sport air spring units are interchangeable. I know this because I swapped all my Sport air springs for Comfort ones when I had my first X350 model, an XJ6 Sport of 2003 (bought 2010). To be honest the difference was marginal, but a bit better.
Bilstein supply only the Comfort ones now. Its probably best to swap in pairs. The air spring is a totally separate item to the shock absorber part of the unit, there is no link between them apart from them being built as one unit. The shock component is swapped between Hard and Soft by CATS based on inputs from various sensors around the car, using a solenoid in each shock. Default is Hard, because Soft is only set by operating the solenoid. If the electrical supply fails the shock goes to Hard. Also if the system detects a suspension fault, CATS ceases to switch the shocks to Soft, so the ride ikmediately feels much harder. This is nothing to do with the air spring itself which is permanently either a Comfort or a Sport one.
