Tell me about it. 5:00 for me for the Ferry & then the Border. Well worth it though!
Good folks, great drive and spectacular views.

So... I hate to be Debbie Downer but... we've got a fire / air quality issue up in Dem Dere Hills.

Smoke from BC fires causes burn ban, poor air quality | KING5.com

Unless it clears up significantly in the next couple of days, not only will you not be able to see much, but the AQ index is pretty nasty. 169 at Mt Baker today. I replaced the Master Cylinder on my oldest's Accord this afternoon, and you can smell the fire from my house.

Y'all sure you don't wanna go south instead?

Cr@p..... Errr I mean Prius!

No fires in the immediate area, just this darn smog. Rahtok may have a point, as visibility could be pure garbage.

Thoughts people?

Hey! I get the same view!
Actually went to my storage unit today and grabbed my electrostatic air cleaner. This stuff is killing my eyes and throat...grrrrr Thank goodness I have a good unit, so inside is getting better!

I know we have had very little success postponing things (this mess is going to be around into next week), so my question may be moot.
What are you thinking Muddy?

Check this out!

Or this

Play with the settings a bit.

Looks like the winds are going to change over Friday and blow the smoke away.
I guess we could make the call later on Friday and change the route if need be. I am game for whatever happens.

I say we go for it anyway. It's 90% about just driving somewhere together. Yes, our destination may not be as pretty. But the haze won't affect the actual drive much.

One does not order the sunday simply for the cherry! Lest we forget, we have driven through both fire and ice (literally on both accounts!).

Did we decide to bring our own lunches or are we stopping to eat somewhere?

<chuckles> I was debating that if the air quality was bad enough I was going to take the Z for canyon carving, as I wouldn't take the top down on La Kitty.

I need to be back by 4pm in Issaquah. At least if the wifey comes, as we have kid running around responsibility then.

Looking back at Muddies timeline, I was going to pack a sandwich and soda or two. If other things happen, no harm no foul.
We stopped for Pizza last time, but I think we are going to avoid that particular side trip.

I'd prefer we make for the summit, but if a lunch stop is needed, then I would propose we hit Sedro, and run 8 minutes west on 20 to Burlington. Lots of food choices there, and not really that far off path.

Glacier is about 1:15 from Sedro Wooley, putting us in after 11 AM. We can stop at Graham’s restaurant before heading up the mountain if people want to. Otherwise we will be at the peak a bit after noon. Either way I’d bring snacks for the peak.

Does any one want to stop to eat before we get there? Here’s a couple of links to the diner. it looks like it’s open tomorrow from 8AM-10PM

Remember to charge up your FRS radios if you have them!! if not we will have spares.

I just called Graham's. They are open all day tomorrow.

The summit is about 1/2 hour or so beyond. We could also stop on the way back, but without snacks at the top I will be pretty hungry by 1-130 pm!

Definitely eat a bite for breakfast before you come to the meet-up point tomorrow.

Again, for those joining us late, that's Smokey Point Rest Stop Northbound outside of Marysville, WA at 9:15 AM for a 9:30 departure.

Note: Also remember, Mt Baker is a National Forest, so those of you with National Park (America the Beautiful) passes can present them for access at no charge.
Those of you with State Park (Discover) passes will require the day pass.

Our numbers are down from last time.... Wonder why?

It's just one of those years. We all got busy. Gotta get all those F-type owners interested in driving them!

I'll bring food to snack on and if we stop to eat before or after the summit that'd be great. But not necessary. See you at the rest stop in Smokey Point!

I would suggest snacks anyway. I would think that most restaurants will be busy at lunchtime being the weekend and all thus taking a long time getting served which can cut into the day. We could make the call where & when as we go.
There are a few places along the way.
If we snacked at the top, somewhere like Acme Diner
https://www.facebook.com/ACME-Diner-196687247118228/
It would be good heading back as we would hit it early afternoon. We could maybe call ahead and reserve a table so we don't have to wait too long.
Just a thought.
