June meet and Drive-St Hellens
#41
Not a whole lot to Vantage that I remember, but its been 4 or so years... Nice vista of the river and a good place if you have water toys, but not much else... Petrified forest is a quick walk around and done... (Take the Vantage highway out of Ellensburg to give you some comfortable back road scenery).

After E@RTC
I think agree with this as a route after E@RTC
How about E@RTC and then a drive.
May get a good turnout.
I could suggest a nice easy afternoon loop north from Redmond, very pretty route, all country roads, sights to see along the way, that would get everyone back to Redmond area before dark if anyone is game.
Don't want you to cancel the planned run believe me Vince but having all the Jaguar people in one place could lend itself to a likely crowd.
Whaddaya think?

Okay Vince, you talked me into it. Make me a probable for June 8th (if I can get out of bed early enough) and I'm definitely in for the 15th.
For the 15th I'd like to suggest a combination of the two routes. The falls are so awesome and so near Redmond that it would be silly to miss them, but after viewing them I'd like to head north and pick up Growler's route before or in Monroe. We would want to cut his route short at Arlington, however, for two reasons. I believe the large mountain loop to the upper Skagit at Rockport is far too ambitious for the time allowed, and I also believe that with the recently destroyed I-5 bridge we do NOT want to get anywhere near Mt. Vernon-Burlington-Sedro Woolley and the detour congestion (Hwy 9 on his route is one of the detours, but is fine further south around Arlington). If we have extra time there is beautiful country and good driving roads to the west of Arlington to Stanwood and if desired around Camano Island. We could end our run back in Monroe so everyone could take their own best route home from there (Kingston ferry for you, Vince!).

WooHoo!
Either your a tad sadistic, or a glutton for punishment! This would make the third or possably forth drive you've willingly agreed to attend!
Always glad to have you join in!!!!
Alternate route is worthy of consideration as well.....

Glad to see another join in! Lets hope for top down weather!
E@RTC is going to be great with a big chunk of our forum members there! I'm excited!
I altered the St Helen's route a bit to trim time and avoid going further south than needed.
Tacoma Mall Blvd to WA-504 E/Spirit Lake Hwy - Google Maps
I'll ask folks coming up from the south to meet us in Toledo (exit 63)... that's a one hour drive up I-5 from Portland for them, whereas we will be on the road 2 hours plus by then. The mountain is still 1 hour inland from there!
Need an agreeable departure time. 8 or 9 via Krispy Kreme at the Tacoma mall?

So another question for the St Helen's group...
Should we open the drive up to others?
So far, we have had roughly 3 drives (4 if you count the one with zero participation) in the last year, never getting more than 4 Jags total per event. (2 on the first when we tagged along with an Audi group, 4 on the second to Leavenworth, and 3 on the third to Astoria.)
I enjoy and prefer the exclusive sight of our gorgeous Jags as well as the company of their owners, but with such limited turnout so far, is our attempt at remaining "exclusive" what we want as a group?
To me, the "right" number is 6 to 10 cars... Do we stand fast and hope to build our numbers?
Opinion's or PM's welcome...

I agree, my most enjoyable drive so far was the Leavenworth run, much better than buzzing around with the large pack of Audi boys at St. Helens last year. Of course it will be fine either way, but I have no problem with it being only the refined drivers and their refined machinery from Coventry and Castle Bromwich.

Its going to have to be a last minuite decision for me as I will be returning from Alberta at the end of the week and may just head straight to Krispy Kreme.
Fingers crossed.
Allan
If not St Helens then maybe E@RTC.

I think the uniformity is something fun in itself. As I was leaving you guys after breakfast to go on the Astoria run I saw four Model Ts coming across the highway, all in a row. Pretty neat to watch. We must think of the fans
What time are you getting back on Saturday eve?
What time are you getting back on Saturday eve?
Return time will be similar to the Astoria run ... IE late...
Google maps shows S.H. to be a 3 hour run via back roads (just over 2 using I-5), and allow for an hour of stops along the way (10 here, 15 there adds up), so arrival at the observatory is 12 or 1:00 depending on departure time. Allowing 2 hours there to chew on a sandwich and take in the view. So depart S.H. 2:00 or 2:30. Freeway cuts the return to Tacoma to 2 hours if the day drags out too long.
Last time I did S.H I recall getting home around 7 or 8, but I didn't pay attention to timing, and that was after stopping for a dinner.
Should we make S.H weather dependent? Overcast is bad enough as it obscures the mountain, but with rain, even the roads would disappoint.
