Leavenworth Drive

Well, the final push is here! We have a great group signed up, and weather hints (like I really trust a 7 day forecast in Washington state) at sunshine and 72, which of course means we might have lots of sunshine, or torrential downpours, but Hey! That won't stop us!
If your sittin' on the fence, get off it (those ones with tar in them can really mess up a good pair of pants)! Remember, the day is only as long as you want it to be. Join in, or exit at any point!
Muddy has all these cool decals, just waiting to be handed out! And for those of you that enjoy festival shopping, the pavilion in Leavenworth is stocked with stunning art just dying to be hung on someones living room wall! (Seriously! I've drooled all over some of the beautiful art you will see for sale there! And one or two artists might have gotten angry with me for doing so...... )
But Hey! Back to the Cascadia Cats!.........
I think we have the Jaguarforums banner (Muddy?) we all get to autograph. as well as list our event and names on the back for posterity!.... Ya don't want to miss that once in a lifetime chance do ya? (So far I'm listed on all of them! Nee-ner...Nee-ner...Nee-ner! :^P )
Anywho... Step up and join in! (Honestly, everyone is pretty cool and mature... And they even overlook my antics! How cool is that?!?!)
Peace!

We try to have everyone there, fueled and ready to roll by 9. But as is common, departure varies on the amount of chit-chatting we do.
More info for attendees:
It is importance to let us know if you are not going to make it (I'll PM everyone my cell), so we don't sit at Safeway hoping your just stuck in traffic and a few minutes late.
I
Also, in the past, we lost a few cars in traffic, then watched them drive right by the group, not seeing us waiting for them along the way. Knowing the common stops might help keep us together better.
Two common ones, is our turn off from Hwy 2 onto the Old Cascade Highway. This is just under an hour into the drive, and at mile post 55. This 4 mile side trip offers our first photo op, and a 20 minute break to stretch and talk among pristine forest.
From there, we make our way to the Iron Goat Interpretive site (Near Mile Marker 58) for an often needed restroom break. So if we lost us at the MM 55 turn off, you can stay on Hwy2 up to the interpretive site (look for the red caboose) and we would be there soon.
After that, we need to make a call. We turn north on Hwy 207 at Coles Junction (about MM 84). If we stop at Lake Winatchee, (which is beautiful BTW), then everyone needs to know it is a State park, and without a discover pass, fees apply.

Went to look at Old Blewett today, but the Forest Service has it blocked off due to the Iron Goat fire. So that side trip is out.... Sorry...
Also, in looking at fire stuff, there is a massive fire just north of Lake Wennatchee, and I understand the smoke in the area (Including Leavenworth) is pretty bad.
Our primary route (207 North) to the lake, takes us pretty close to the fire itself (which has burned about 42,000 acres, and is 79% contained).
My point there is that it could be very uncomfortable for anyone with respiratory issues, and I'm guessing there will be a lot of first responder traffic from the lake all the way into Leavenworth.

Muddy made a good point in a recent PM. This fire map shows the entire burn area. However, the remaining 20% of the fire could easily be way up in the distant hills, not 4 miles away from our route. I did not research that as a possibility, so the map could be moot overall.
I did hear that the smoke is still a problem though, however a nice breeze in a north-northwest direction could easily provide us with clean air and skies. It's all shoulder shrugging guess work at best.
ADDED LATER THIS MORNING: Leavenworth webcams show clean air and blue skies. I just looked at windy dot com, and the winds are blowing from the east. My concerns may be over inflated. sorry...

Has anyone been to the Monroe Safeway and verified it's still there and open? I have property in Monroe and know the property sold to a California investor back in June who had plans to tear it down for housing. Here's an article from June I have to admit I haven't even glanced to the left as I've driven through town.
A California businessman purchased the Monroe Safeway property for $13.14 million last month, and the future of the grocery site remains unclear.
Sale of the property, at 19651 U.S. Highway 2, closed on June 21, and was purchased by TMY Monroe LLC, according to the county assessor’s office. The foreign limited liability company is governed by Edward Morimoto of Los Gatos, California.
Morimoto has been the director of his family’s Yuki Farms since April 12, which sold Los Gatos’ last remaining walnut orchard to developer SummerHill Homes in June for $57.3 million.
The land deal and North 40 development project on that land was controversial in Los Gatos, according to the Mercury News, which reported the project was rejected by the city in September 2016. The city was forced to reconsider after a superior court judge ruled “the town was wrong and must reconsider its decision,” according to the Mercury News.
That project includes 320 market-rate homes and 49 low-income rental apartments.
Morimoto did not return a phone call seeking comment about the Monroe Safeway acquisition on Wednesday, which was first reported by the Daily Journal of Commerce.
Morimoto also completed the $37.77 million purchase of a retail center in Woodinville on June 19, under the TMY Woodinville Towne Center, LLC.
Should the Monroe Safeway face closure, it will join Albertsons as another shuttered grocery store in the city.
