Default Pick a June destination(s)

Pick two preferred destinations. We may see several impromptu drives this month thanks to great weather, so keep an open mind and a spontaneous attitude! They can prove to be some of the most memorable drive you've joined!

Anyhow! Lets get the June party started! Vote for your TWO preferred destinations, and/or leave a few recommendations in your post!

Of Note:
  • Mt Baker (Artist Point) has been known to open as early as mid May, or late June due to weather.
  • Johnson Ridge Observatory (Mt St. Helen's) is scheduled to open May 16th.
  • Sunrise is projected to be open July 2nd

A bump, and notice...

Mt Baker (Artist Point) is still closed, although crews are now working on the route, no opening date has been given.

Sunrise: Plows have reached the parking lot, and have begun clearing an maintenance. Estimated opening date is June 28th.

Pics!

Anyhow... We may need to look at lower elevations for this month, so lets see some votes!

So.... June 30th approaches, and overall response has been... Shall we say..."Less than optimal"? Our polls have not proven as helpful as I had hoped, and no destination received more than 3 votes, the winner by 1 is Artist Point.

Artist point is now open, but 3 attendees (myself being one of the 3 votes) is far less that visits of the past. Even worse; Forecasts currently show 100% chance of rain, which kills visibility, and can possibly close the destination if it turns to snow at elevation. Most western Washington is showing 90% chance of rain, so I doubt it can be dodged regardless of destination.

Do we still drive? and if so, Where?
I will offer my services and function as host if there are participants, but I really do not enjoy the tension of driving on wet roads.

Thoughts?
Vince

Exclamation

Artist point (Mount Baker) remains open. Forecasts are moving in the right direction, but depending on your weather site, still vary from 80% to 'slight' chance of rain (... Yeah, like that is helpful information...Yeash!).
Artist Point and Sunrise still show overcast for Saturday, June 30th.

With only 4 days to go, I'm calling off the two highest voted destinations, as they are a significant full days drive for most and too majestic a sight to waste when hidden in clouds.

Are there those that wish to drive elsewhere? If so Where?
I will offer my services and function as host if there are participants, but I really do not enjoy the tension of driving in traffic on wet roads.

I am in for Saturday, June 30th, and I don't care a bit where we go or what the weather is. Of course blue skies are the best for the gorgeous views but there is something to be said for weather with more character as well. The two best drives we have done in our opinion were one through a blizzard and the other through a forest fire. I would love to see Hurricane Ridge or any of the other possibilities but I really just would love the drive and the social interaction with friends, maybe also a maple bar before and a nice meal during or after.

With only one member showing interest, the June 30th event is CANCELED.
July 7th is our next chance at Mt Baker, so get signed up quickly!
