Default Places worthy of visits

So another attempt to get NW involvement:

Lets see a list of places you would take out of area friends and guests if they were to show up on your door step for a week.

Some of these can be obvious (Seattle Center, Pike Place Market, Multmomah Falls OR.)
Or obscure depending upon your tastes and lifestyle (Example, I love Aircraft, and Nature, so the Restoration facility's at Pain Field in Everett, or Evergreen Air Museum in McMinnville OR. Or possibly Mt. Saint Helens or the Hoh River Rain forest in the Olympic National Park)

So, When friends and family come from the eastern seaboard for a visit, where do you take them to show off our great Northwest?

(We could expand this to night life and eateries if you would like to share....)

Vince

Vince do not despair. The Regional sections take time to develop to full potential.

(rather like making love to a beautiful woman), best not rushed.

If I was visiting, I would want to see Mt St Helens, and the associated tech locations.

If nothing else, I would hope this post would bring up places many never thought about visiting, or never knew was there in the first place.

Always a good opportunity to share your traveling experiences to make recommendations and offer warnings.

I'm not a terribly sophisticated person, so my hobbies are simple.... Find me a good road in the countryside, and a few friends to share it with (amazing how much fun you can have with FRS radios in each car for chatter).
Maybe a nice brewpub at the end of the day and life is grand...

I spent some time in Astoria, there is a lot going on there for a small place and lot's of history.
You can do a round trip from Portland area shoot over the bridge and head back on the other side of the river, there's also a ferry if that floats your boat.
Don't forget to visit one of the several micro breweries for lunch.

Thanks Norr.

Love Astoria as well. Great Victorian bed and breakfast abound.
Maritime museum is worth your time.

30 minutes north is Long beach WA. The third full week of August they hold one of the largest kite festivals on the west coast.... (In the Guinness World Book of Records for the most kites in the air at one time! Very cool!)

Which MicroBrews did you check out? Haven't been to any there yet....

Racking my memory now, there's the Wet Dog right on the tram tracks on the waterfront, the Rogue is out on one of the old cannery piers, but I don't know if they actually brew there, and the Fort George is a bit back from the water but the beer is excellent.

This was the view from my apartment

Wet Dog (Astoria Brewing CO) looks to have a few awarded brews...(And Onion rings!) Will hunt it down this summer, thanks!
Of course Pig in a Blanket is one of the few pancake houses that sell sourdough pancakes!. Not a famous eatery in any form, but I stop every time for those!

Another place in Oregon is the Evergreen Air museum McMinnville OR. June 10th is "Cruse to the Goose" car event.
Audi did a similar event last year in conjunction with a night balloon launch (Dont see that on this years agenda as of yet). Anyhow , got to take you car inside for photo shoot next to famous aircraft.

Other worthy events of note?

Historic Columbia River Scenic Highway
Always a favorite trip with Multmomah falls (one of 8 on that road) as a highlight
Hood River has good accommodations, and Double Mountain Brewery and Tap room makes an awesome Pizza to go with good beer.

Since us Cnucks were invited here, let"s not forget Whistler. Beautiful, and if you want a long but beautiful and fun drive, do the loop through Pemberton to Lilloet and down the Fraser Canyon.

Just brought it up in Google earth.... terrain along Highway 1 looks amazing. Loop looks to be just over 8 hours 22 minutes and the roads looked in surprisingly good condition too.

Been here in Northern WA since '84 and never skied Whistler.... grrrr.... My son is now 15 and I know he would love to go there to run the slopes.

Last time I crossed the border was taking a walk-on from Port Angeles to Victoria.... So many great pubs, and so little time to hit them all.... gotta do that one again this summer...
