Time to talk "Drives" for 2013

Well, once again I took the Cat to wild and exotic places..... (Well OK, just hot Northern California...)
Week long road trip down the eastern side of the Cascades. Took in McKenzie Pass, Crater Lake, Mt Shasta, and of course the finest road in NorCal, highway 36!
Cali was 116 degrees according to the news... Talk about being a miserable Pacific Northwesterner on that visit!
Returned up 101 for some more cool adventures!

Bet your Cat is glad to have you back Marco!
Mine took some abuse on this run, and I am worried about getting her fixed up and back by the 20th. We shall see....
Sounds Like I have that Thermostat failure being discussed in the XK/XKR side of the fourm. Having just run her hard in 116 degree weather may have been a tad tough on the cooling system. Fans are now running at full speed, and she didnt do that at all last summer....
Also picked up a ticking and pulse in the fron brakes... Will pull them apart tonight or tomarrow to see whats going on.
Was going to wait for the weekend to look at the brakes, but time to the 20th is short, and I dont expect the dealership to be fast on troublshooting or parts orders, so the sooner I get her to Tacoma the quicker the cooling issue gets fixed.
Sigh...

Well, after waking up to an adrenilin rush that was The Old Spiral Highway, I point the Jag south on highway 95. Per Swimrefs instructions I then treated myself to Old highway 95, just north of Whitebird...
This road was pure excitement... A combination of power and brakes kept you on edge, knowing you had very little room for error without meeting what could easily be considered a "life ending" event. The possibility of error kept me in reserve, but I ran her three times to get a good feel for the switchbacks and braking zones... Wow... Been a while since I felt that level of adrenalin! Very cool despite its state of decay!
Hard to see but if you look at one of the images you can count 5 of the switchbacks in the one shot!
Made Onterio Oregon that night and proceeded to Baker City and on to Highway 7 for a short visit to a mining dredge in Sumpter Oregon. Having grown up in a valley where they were used (but burnt to the waterline when done) it was fascinating to see one intact!
Further on, I stopped by "Painted Hills" just because I was close...Pretty cool...
Northbound to The Dalles, I finally hit the first roadblock that I could not easily pass. Lucky for me i only had to trail it for two miles.... Least the Jag got to cool down a tad.... The rolling hills certainly let me take the leash off the Jag and let her run.... At no point did I set the cruse control anywhere in the 3 digit plus area... honest.... cough cough....
Overall an amazing road trip, whose only down side was the 95 to 98 degree days.
My hat is tipped to Swimref for bringing these asphalt treasures to my attention....

Such memories of Whitebird! The road in your video looks to be clear and 1.75-2 lanes wide all the way. When I drove it last September the tumbleweeds had blown in reducing the width considerably in several places, sometimes to no more than 1 lane. Hard to believe that road was the main and only highway between southern and northern Idaho until the late seventies, carrying semis and busses.
