Sako replaced my hydraulic hoses and the ram unit in the headrail in my XKR several years ago after I got "drenched" by the notorious green shower. Everything's been fine ever since.
Also in Los Angeles.. interested in good Jag mechanic--keep me in touch
Hi all...
I live in Mid-City Los Angeles...
The Grove / Mid-City area..
and am in need of good mechanic or mechanics.
For past 20 years, I have done all maintenance and mechanical work on all my Jaguars and other vehicles...
But lately been too busy to keep up with all the "odd" items.
Plus..
Service foremen at the Dealers near me have privately told me that they do not have enough qualified Jag mechanics.
And... Jag Service workshop foremen have just come back from "training sessions" on Jaguar electric cars which are coming soon.
To all ...
how do we share contact information to assist in local repair issues?
I have owned Jaguars since 1968
Hey lajag,
Did you find a good mechanic? I went to European motors in Glendale, they're way toooo expensive. As in dealer prices expensive.
Let me know if you found a good one. I'm looking.s well.
Thanks
Hey, alexander the great. I know this is an old thread now, but just wondered if you ever located a great Jag mechanic in the Valley or elsewhere in L.A (2012 XF here). We just relocated back here and previously used South Bay British, but Nigel's a long way away now. May have to drive back to him if can't find one here.
I have been using Superformance in west LA on Cotner, above Pico and below Olympic. They have handled everything my 2006 XKR has thrown at me. Work is excellent and they are very knowledgeable. Ask for Johnny.
hi brian, i'm in Lakewood too. are you still a service manager in M.B.? looking to replace timing secondaries on my 2000 xk8. are you able to assist, and what type of $ range am i looking at? thanks. tomo 562/714-2986 text
Exclusive Motors is now on Venice, practically under the 405 bridge. I think it's the same place that used to be on Pico. I've been as happy as one can be in a repair shop. I know another Jag owner who goes there and is also satisfied. See George.
I have a 1998 XK8. George has managed to get replacement parts for a 20 year-old car pretty quickly. I've had no issues with this shop.
I've used Pasadena Motorcars in the past.
They did the timing chain tensioners on my XJR about 10 years ago.
Prices were reasonable and they were very knowledgeable.
They seem to have hired all the old Jaguar mechanics who knew how to diagnose and repair problems rather than just swap out parts.
That being said, I haven't used them in a long time so things may have changed.
Rene's shop at European Auto Service in Reseda does excellent work.
hello everyone,
I know this was brought up a few times over the years. I bought a 2010 XK that I love.
had to replace the battery a week ago, had a mechanic friend that did it. He’s a bit familiar with jags. We followed the resetting procedures except the driving part. Car started and all good. But when I turned it off and try to restart it didn’t and still doesn’t 😩
Im in the San Fernando valley, Sherman oaks / Van Nuys. Anyone found a good honest mechanic in or around the area? Any advice / referral would be greatly appreciated.
thank you in advance. Here is the code that it reads.
Los Angeles - Finding a capable, honest, fair mechanic for my XK8's in Los Angeles has been a serious challenge. I have two top recommendations, I'm optimistic about a third, and have an excellent transmission guy.
· Kent is hands-down excellent at Al’s Jaguar. He did extensive diagnosis of rough running, and now it runs well. He didn't want me to throw money at an unworthy specimen, and didn't want me to bring in a car that wasn't running. (310) 373-8266, 3735 Newton St, Torrance, CA 90505, M-F 7:15-5:00
· Richard Boyd at RMB Auto has given me excellent advice and he did my secondary tensioners, but works alone and doesn't want grunt work. (818) 753-1784, 5421 Cleon Av, N Hollywood, CA 91601, MF 8-6, Sat 12-3
· John at European Car Service Reseda is new to me, where I just took my car for grunt work. He runs the family shop, has deep knowledge of XK8s, and highly rated on Yelp. (818) 343-7284, 18520 Wyandotte St Reseda, CA 91335, www.europeanautosvc.com , M-Sat 8:30-6, Sat to 1:30pm
· Gerard at Leon’s Transmission is where I would go if I needed a transmission rebuilt. He rebuilt the trans on my 1996 BMW 750iL and re-did it when it didn’t feel quite right to him. It has driven beautifully in the 2 years since then. (818) 844-2200, 6911 San Fernando Rd, Glendale CA 91201, M-F 8-5
Hi all, old time member, sold my Jag in 2014, and starting to get that Jaguar itch recently ....
Questions:
Is there a place here in the forum where there is a consolidated list of Jag-friendly service garage? For me - specifically, I am looking for places that can help do pre-purchase inspections of X150 gens or newer. I know dealer would be obvious places, but through my Jag ownership experience, independent shops have been the best places where we could get the best service. Certainly, that was the case when I lived in Austin TX area.
I've messaged you a really useful contact. If anyone else needs a superb and very very reasonable Jag mechanic in the LA county area, message me as I can't unfortunately post his details publicly.

I would like the contact for your jag mechanic - text me at (805) 679-1917
I second the endorsement of Bob Cutler Automotive in Pasadena. Bob seems like a nice guy, a Jaguar specialist with many years experience. When I asked for some expensive “Nervous Nellie” diagnostics, he told me, “Just drive the car and enjoy it. Don’t waste your money.” He was right, and I am.
