Default New XKR owner

Well, just since yesterday! 2005 black XKR. I'm located in northwest LV. Know little about this car. Are their any Jag-specific groups here?

Default Engine and trans

Was it worn out, or what? Mine seems to be in excellent shape with 70k miles on it. I know very little about the Jag engine.

actually it drove pretty good, but In this particular year xk8 needed new tensioners for the engine because they were made out of plastic. your car should already have the updated metal tensioners. and the zfhp24 german made transmission in this year need to update new parts. your car have a zf transmission but i cant quite remember what model number. since i pulled the engine and tranny i figured i might as well change the engine mounts and take a close look at that drive line. when i put it back together i dont expect to have no more trouble out of it. I am buying the special tools for the job, maybe if you need help with tune-ups or what not, we can get in touch. that is if the dealer is charging a little toomuch

I changed mine right after I brought the car back from NorCal. Fortunately, I had a few other issues to fix and did some searching on one of the other Jag forums where I found a lot of great info on the tensioners. I borrowed the tools from a member over there who "rents" them out for about $25. To me, it was well worth it regardless of what others say about holding the cams with tie straps or lesser tools. I know it can be done but I chose the safest way (I also locked down the flywheel from underneath as was recommended because moving that crank or cams can be disastrous.

I really love my XK8 but would sure love to have an R model. I have spotted some bargains on 2003 XK8's and XKR's but they were far away and it's hard to know just what the P.O.'s did to them. Every dealer selling pre-2003 XK8's seems to know or acknowledge NOTHING about the CCT issues.

At the time I did the CCT's I also replaced the front rotors/calipers/pads, and did a few other things (rear speakers...a really time-consuming job, combo light switch, rear view miror, water pump/tower, etc.). It's all inevitable, but no more that you'd do on any car with higher mileage. Fortunately, my tranny had already been replaced.

Next is new tires....looking seriously at the Kumho 4X's. I'm gonna grind Discount Tire for a deal .

When you have things sorted out you need to pick a nice day and cruise up to Mt. Charleston and take the hwy across to Lee Canyon. Nice, close drive. Redrock is ok, but Death Valley is much better with the top down and going from day into dark night with gazillions of stars.

Hi. There is a pretty good British Car Club, and they do have a website. I haven't hooked up with them yet, but my #5 son is a multi MG owner and did. They should have some good sources of help when needed. I'm stubborn and do all my own work.

i found a place in phx az that remanufacture the zf trannies. I think im going to just spring for the tool kit from baum tools, they cost about 350. and I will replace all of the chains and tensioners primary and secondary. once i put her back together I plan on getting down on the pedal. so i figure ill be putting about 2300 to 3000 all together with a happier car.

I'm in vegas cars running good. The only problem is I can't keep my wife from driving it. Now I'm looking for a third car, maybe a 4door Lexus just for her. Lol
