Are you selling the baby Jag or keeping it? You may need to search nationwide to find what you're looking for. (www.cargurus.com) Good luck.
I find the prettiest XKR's with low miles and good upkeep thousands of miles away...but I am not willing to do the shipping/roadtrip thing...
May I ask how your XK8 had been? I look at those as well...but I fear the green shower of death. eeps! I would get a 2003-2008 one IF i decided on that rather than the XKR. but more ponies on PCH sure is fun!

Welcome Prettybluefin,
Good luck in your search. I have both an X100 (2002 XKR convertible) and an X150 (2010 XKR coupe). Unfortunately, the dreaded green shower was an equal opportunity problem for all XK8s and XKRs throughout its production life from 1996-2006. So choosing an XK8 over an XKR for that reason won't help you. My 2002 has well over 160,000 miles on it, looks almost new, runs better now than it did at 60,000 miles. While the tensioner problem can be catastrophic if not dealt with up til 2002 (2003 got the upgraded metal tensioners with the 4.2L engine), there is one great advantage of the earlier XKRs, the 5 spd transmission of the XKR prior to 2003 is a Mercedes sourced unit that is stronger, longer lasting, and generally a better tranny than the ZF units of the XK8 and the 2003-2006 XKR. Obviously the pre-2003 cars are less expensive. Good luck in your search.
A number of us get together around town. Ralphwg and I see each other on a regular basis, and several others get together for canyon runs, the Queen's English Car Show at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, and Supercar Sunday at Woodland Hills Promednade every Sunday. I haven't yet gone to the meetings in Palos Verdes, but Ralph went last time, and I plan to attend with him next time.
Welcome.

Welcome.
what I am looking for is a post 2003 XKR. i am aware of the plastic tensioner issue, and don't want to deal with that...unless you have a good mechanic that can do the upgrade for a reasonable amount? did you change out yours right away?
i have heard it is around $2500, so i have not explored pre-2003 much...
that is also why i hesitate alot on the convertible, although i do want one. i have always had cars with sunroof, and will miss the open air feeling with a coupe...
my dream car would be a post 2003 coupe in zircon or seafrost...or the metallic grey....
i test drove an XKR over the weekend to get a sense of the small cabin and it was nice. the power of it was very seductive over baby jag for sure!

I replaced my tensioners when I went out to my car one day, started it, heard a blood curdling sound, and shut it off within about half a second. I was very, very fortunate that no catastrophic damage was done to the engine. The tensioners, timing chains, and gaskets kit along with labor should be less than half of the $2500. And yes, I do have a mechanic in the San Fernando Valley who did it for me and works on all of my cars as well as many of my friend's cars and other forum members' cars. PM me if you need a reference. On the subject of XKs and XKRs, I love the look of the X100, its historical ties to the XKE, its sensual body, and even its classic interior, but you should also take a look at the X150 (2007 up). I have seen where some 2007-8 cars are actually priced lower than 2005-6 X100s. As much as I love my 2002 XKR, there is simply no comparison in the driving capabilities between the two. The newer model is vastly improved in the suspension and handling department, so much so that it's shocking. Same engine as the 2003-2006, the 4.2L, so reliability is very good. The 5.0L didn't come into play until 2010. If you'd like, you're welcome to drive my two back to back, it will shock you.

the main thing keeping me from a more current model is $$$. i want to try and spend ten grand, out the door.
there is a perfect one at a dealer locally, but he wants twice that with zero warranty...
and that 2005 seafrost with only 28,000 miles on craigslist? i dream about it... ($17,000)
i can be patient. but i can be tempted, so i must pass on driving your newer cat! but thank you!

Bluefin - Welcome to XK branch of the cat family. I will keep my eye out for a candidate for your acquisition. Although I never had an X100 so I can't compare the X150 cat to the X100; I will say that the X150 is the best of the Jaguars that I have owned and I go all the way back to a 74 XJ12L as well as a an S1 E type. Good hunting. By the way it may pay to head down out to one of the gatherings you may just run into what you are looking for or info regarding one.
