Default Change tires on 20’ alloy rims

Hi all,

For my Jag XK (X150 model 2011) I have a pair of 20’ alloy rims that I bought secondhand refurbished with rubbers on. Recently I needed to have the TPMS sensors inside these wheels replaced, so the tires needed to come off and with new sensors fitted on again a couple of minutes later.

Unfortunately I was quite shocked looking at the procedure how the tires were removed, which then also resulted in a couple of scratch marks on my rims (mostly from use of a metal crow bar style tool to ease the tire side off/back on the rim.

Now it must be said that my rims were newly refurbished when I bought them, so they were resprayed and had basically zero scratches before the sensor swapping.

What are your experiences with modern 20’ alloy rims when getting tires changed? Does this almost inevitably result in some scratches on the rim near the tire?
Does it make a difference if the rims are original/new or refurbished/resprayed?

br,
ter
