New Pilot Sport A/S 3 tire from Michelin
#2
I was interested to see that the "Supersport" is described as a Summer tyre, and the "Sport" as an all-seasons. People often say the Supersport is a good Jag tyre. I have been very pleased with Michelin Pilots.
Additionally the Comfort rating is higher for the Sport, which I presume means noise is better, and possibly a softer ride. I can't see a noise rating grade and db number as is required in Europe (we have recent regulations for road noise).
I was at my local tyre independent yesterday and he said the Supersport was suitable for a Porsche but would not last long on my big jag, so I've ordered Sports but don't remember which variety (he called Michelin for the recommendation and to order them)

I cant speak for the PS A/S "3", but I have run the Pilot Sport A/S on my XK and hated very day with them. If you are an aggressive driver the compound was not only lacking in grip, but borderline dangerous. The only time they told you they had let go in a corner was when you noticed the nose of the car was a foot away from where it belonged. No feel or feedback at the point of release what-so-ever.... scarey tire..
I'll take a Bridgestone 970 A/S over the Mich any day. Also take a good look at the Continental DWS... Both are great A/S tires, with the DWS probably winning all around.
Overall I'm not a fan of an A/S tire, preferring to do it correctly with both winter and summer sets. A/S is a compromise in all categories.

Michelin SS vs. AS3
"Additionally the Comfort rating is higher for the Sport, which I presume means noise is better, and possibly a softer ride."
I've just replaced my XFR's Michelin Pilot Super Sports with the AS3 and, yes, the AS3 delivers a more comfortable ride than the SS. The AS3 are almost as quiet as the SS but more prone to road imperfections, ie bump noise. Also, on NEW smooth asphalt the tires will "sing" above 30-40 mph.
"I was at my local tyre independent yesterday and he said the Supersport was suitable for a Porsche but would not last long on my big jag,"
That's a load of crap! Put around 30K on the SuperSports and would have gone another year if it weren't for front tires being destroyed by pot holes and misalignment. I absolutely love the SS and will put them back on come summer time. good luck
