Tire pressure ... XJ40 (XJ6) '93 ?

Nice to have a Jag ... EVERYTHING seems to be debatable!
My 1993 XJ40 (XJ6) came with Bridgestone Potenza all around, but:
G009 225/60R16 both front and passenger rear (tires read 44psi max.)
G019 P225/60R16 driver rear (tire reads 51psi max.)
All of the above are in very good condition.
My model manual only covers 15" tires, and then just Pirelli and Michelin (saying
all other brands should be set at 44psi).
So ... Q: Does the suspension "want" something like 44psi, or can I "soften" them up some to smooth out the ride? (They were all mid-30s when I got the car, but that doesn't mean the previous owner was paying attention.)
And ... what do I do with the one G019?
I have them all at about 40psi right now.
(I'll also take any "new set" brand/model/configuration suggestions.)
Thanks, as always.
