Default 12th Time's a Charm - Mounted My Old Mercedes S-Class Wheels on the X-Type

Winter wheels are off, so time to update the build thread. Mercedes W140 S-Class wheels, circa 1996 vintage.

These were on my old Volvo 850 wagon back in 2004 when I imported them in from Germany. They changed owners a few times and I eventually bought them back after many years.

Yes, the center caps are staying and I don't care.

If you had a dollar for every time you screwed/unscrewed a lug nut you would be a very very rich man.

I quite like the wheels, but how the heck would you get a jack under it at the roadside?

I do kind of like the way they look on the car.

Expat, how many of your wheel set do you have right now? I would think they would take up a ton of room in a garage or storage area. Right now I have two old bent Arubas that I need to get fixed that are taking up some valuable garage space. I can't imagine what your collection is like. I can almost envision a type of walk in closet off the master bedroom that houses wheels instead of hundreds of pairs of shoes. I just wish I had the ambition/money/space/ability/time to do the kinds of things with my car like you do. Thanks for sharing!

Air ride. I don't drive this height.

It's about the same ride quality as the X-Type sport suspension.

My crawl space has about 5 sets for this car and 4 sets for the van at the moment.

Shame about the Mercedes 3-point stars in the middle of the rims. Also, personally, I don't like solid rims, they are look very 80's. Just my opinion....

Yeah these aren't like BBS RS where 99.9% of people love them at the moment and they tend to be love/hate if you like thinner spokes or something. I did experiment with different caps back in 2005, but the three points look best.

As with everything, I mod and sculp for me and what I think looks good. Granted, I have a warped sense of taste though compared to most.

I believe Work "was inspired" by these, as was Carlsson with a 6-spoke version.

Yeah you're right... These were definitely around before the Eurolines and Carlssons ever came about.

How much longer do you think you'll keep the X? I've been saying that I want to get rid of mine since last fall but every time I get to the point where I'm ready to put it up for sale and start looking for something new, something at work or in life comes up and I have to put the plan on the back burner.

Eh, life isn't all bad...... Usually a McMansion = McManCave somewhere on the property.

Of all your wheels, these are definitely my favorite.

Obviously, since I'm now a Benz owner.
