Another X-Type Rumble question!
My 04 2.5l 5 spd X-type is doing the rumble when decelerating from 70 to 50. It feels like it's coming from the driveshaft area.
I had the car on a lift at the mechanic's place this morning, and what we found is a worn out transfer case mount (the dogbone). When the mechanic shook the driveshaft to show me how screwed up the mount is, all I could see was the driveshaft to transfer case flange moving from side to side, about 1/16 of an inch of play.
How much play is acceptable there?
I bought a new dogbone on ebay, will grease the center bearing, and we're going o change the fluid this week once the dogbone comes in...
thanks!

we replaced the driveshaft and the dogbone, the rumbling and vibration problems are gone.
the transfer case flange was really loose, we tightened that up, but I think they got a little too crazy on it, since I hear a whining noise from under the car now. So, when I get a new set of driveshaft bolts and we go to swap out the old set, I'll have them adjust the flange a little so it will quiet that up, and the car will be fine for a while (knock on wood)
