HI BEAM WONT TURN OFF!!! CLICKED ON, NOW IT WONT TURN OFF
As you guys can see... i am irritated. but nothing that cant be fixed. so last night im driving... i see its awful dark... and like the curious cat that i am... i just put on my hi beams just to see how bright i can make it lol.
lo and behold.... they wont turn off. i felt when i was turning them on it was unusually resistant to the hi beams being turned on... i dont know what to do...
any help?
THANKS SO MUCH!!!!

Definitely a first for me too. I'd guess that somehow the switch went bad. But as vegas said, does it still move back and forth, just with no effect? Or is it frozen in place?
For the time being I'd take out the high beam bulbs so you can drive as night without pissing everyone off.

Some possibilities...
1. The main beam / fog light relay contacts might have been "welded" closed. You can swap this relay with the dip beam relay and see if the low beams stay on, in which case, replace that relay.
2. The lighting control module is "latched up" or failed. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes may clear up the problem.
3. The high beam switch contact in the turn signal switch is stuck closed. Does it make operate mechanically the way it should?
Not much else that could cause the high beams to stay on.
If you want to turn off the high beams to avoid blinding oncoming traffic, pull the "main beam" fuses.

what does dead switch mean?
-----------------------------------
ok this is the issue. you know how u pull back on the stick to click the high beam into place? thats what i did at 12am the other night... while doing it.. i say to myself that def didnt sound right... and yes now it wont go "off" high beams; essentialy it moves back and forth with no effect.... i feel that i clicked it too hard or something.
took it to the good ol dealership. my technician says buy the 110 dollar hi low beam part, and few screws off the wheel asselmbly will do the trick...
-----------------------------------------
pull the "main beam" fuses... where is the fuse box in this vehicle?
--------------------------------
any suggestions?

Central junction fuse box is located under the dash on the driver's side, near hood release lever. Main beam fuses F85 and F86 are the two 7.5A fuses next to the last (15A) fuse at the right end of the second row of fuses from the bottom.....or just read the owners manual.

ok friends, i have pulled the fuses in the engine compartment bay... so the dash/speedo tach displays a high beam on... but i pulled the fuses so they arent actually on...ill wait to replace the part... its 110 from the jaguar dealership... so thats definatly work in progress...
alright pros... just a subjective question... is taking out the fuses a smart or stupid approach? in the future <i hope recent> i will order the part and install it, however for the timebeing a solution was neccesary...

mr mark...

i dont understand what you mean...

i will definatly be doing this soon.

1st Time x type Jag owner saying hello. :-)
2001 X-type 2.5, same problem as above, Mains come on with the dips and won't go off.
Tried R15 in the central distribution box ( glovebox) not welded.
R9 in the engine bay, (for dip) okay.
Sides and dip operate fine, but the Mains come on with the dips and indicate the blue main beam indicator on the dash.
Indicator switch with main/dip function feels okay but I suspect it's gone.
According to Jag tis the mains are controlled by the General Module driving R15.
The general module is triggered by the Column switch.
Tried the battery reset trick but no joy.
Is it likely to be the indicator column switch ( ebay £20) or the General module? ( cost unknown, and may need Jag to programme it)
Lastly, and thanks for your patience, does the steering wheel need to come off to replace the indicator stalk?
kind regards...

Problem sorted.
Disconnected the indicator/main beam column switch plug and the main bean indicator was no longer on, and the mains were off,
So it's the column switch.
If the column switch wiring had an earth on them, or the general module was goosed then the mains would have stayed on...according to the wiring diagram.
Got a replacement for £15 from Evilbay.
Single retaining clip on the top and off it comes, no need to remove steering wheels or anything.
Start to finish 13 minutes.
All sorted now.
