Steering wheel badge
Ok didnt want to jack the interior post so here is steering wheel post. Its just tad bit bigger than the factory badge. The outer ring Id say. It needs to be sanded down a little to fit flush or have stock badge removed. Any ideas on removal and not mess with airbag

There is no way to change the badge on the airbag unless you want to try the airbag in action. Guys from the Russian Jag forum also had asked that question and some of them even tried to remove the badge. But resultless.
But on the other hand, if you'll do it successfully, you gonna be a true guru! )

+ The size of the badge and the way it's held on the airbag are might be important in an accident if the airbag deploys... we need a Jag specialist here!

Here is a badge that was removed from the airbag of a 2003MY S-Type R
Obviously the airbag had been deployed.
Those tabs are pushed through slits in the leather and folded over.
So while you might be able to remove the badge from a complete airbag, you will never be able to put it back in the same way.
That might be ok if you are glueing the replacment badge on.
The other option is to buy an airbag from a later model, they had black badges instead of green...

As also seen on this thread;
So looking at that, there should be no risk of injury if you attach something else onto the original badge. As long as you attach it seriously well, that is. If it's lightweight and properly glued, then probably no issue.

It's been done on XJ's and S-Types, but it depends a little on the actual badge that's on the wheel.
For example, that S-Type badge in my pictures above has a completely smooth face, the growler is not raised at all. You could easily just put a sticker over the top.
The badge in my X-Type looks the same, but the growler is raised, it's in 3D & you couldn't just put a sticker over the top. And it's not so easy to paint either, since there is green within the growler itself too...
Now the badge on my XJR, it's completely different. It's 3D but with no colour inside the growler, it wouldn't be too hard to paint over the green part. Which will be my next job I think...
And it has been done, here are some (unfortunately, very small) pictures...

ok so here is what I came up with. i started with a center cap from Welsh Jag Parts. I ground it down till I could pop out center piece. Then smoothed the inner ring to where the badge itself just does pass through ring. All is smooth and looks factory. Here is the pics and final look. Not installed yet. Not sure best route to secure it. Dont want a poked out eye if I do need the airbag Any ideas?-hot glue, 2 part epoxy, super glue, or auto grade double sided tape?

Where does this badge go when the airbag deploys?

Nice I didn't even notice that. I'd love to glue or tape a new one on top of the nasty one I've got now, but fear of it flying and lodging in my head or into one of my kids in the back seat keeps me hesitant.

im pretty sure if you look up dumba$$ in websters dictionary his pic is there beside it. i wonder how many of those 40s they drank before they did it. on a more smarter note i may glue the badge on a piece of rubber and set it on a pack of M-80s and try it out. to see if it withstands the impact, wait how much have i drank today. yea i am concerned on the horrible event that bag ever going off

As long as the badge won't become unattached from the original badge, there shouldn't be any issues with it. It's not heavy enough to have any effect whatsoever on the airbag cover lifting up as the airbag explodes out of the steering wheel.
But yeah, they are like small bombs. Treat them with respect.

As most have already stated, the airbag is considered, literally, as an explosive. I believe it deployes at a rate of 45 mph plus (approximately from what i can recall) so while it may break your nose or burn your arms or even lacerate you in some way, its simply ment to save your life in a worst case scenerio situation. The new badge does look good but insure you PROPERLY secure it down (an explosion sending something straight towards your face because it was only held on by double sided tape = not good).

In the event of an impact deploying the driver's airbag, I still want to see where I'm going and not have an opaque balloon obscuring the view.
If they must be there, make them transparent.
