Default "Cruise Control Unavailable" and engine light

I have amanual transmission02 xtype and I just had my engine light come on and a message that reads "Cruise Control Unavailable". I cannot go over 3000 rpms without having toswitch gears. The "Cruise Control Unavailable"will go away after a while, however it comes back onlater. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Thanks in advance!

When your engine light comes one, there is usually an engine code. You need a code reader to pull it and see what it is. Without it...can't help you...sorry.

P0171 is a bank 1 toolean indication. You have a Vacuum leak somewhere.
This was just covered a couple of weeks ago, here is the link to the
thread. Good info! P1000 is not a true fault code and is nothing
to worry about.

Ok Thanks Jag XV6for posting that link. I hear a hissing noise when I start the car with the hood open. It seems to be coming from a hosetowards theback of the engine almost by the firewall, however I cant tell where. How do i performa "smoke" test? I tried spraying some throttle body/air intake cleaner onsome hoses but I could not see any bubbling. Thanks for your help guys... I really appreciate it

Mago304, check your brake boost hose. It runs from the back of the intake to your brake booster (there was a picture of it in that thread) back near the firewall from left to right (to the drivers side if you are in NA)as you are facing the car. There is going to be a buldge in the middle of the hose (could be white in colour) that contains the check valve. You may be able to see, feelAND hear that it has deteriorated. If so, the hose needs replacing. Not too costly. If that's what it turns out to be, PM me with your location. I've got an extra.

and if you hear hissing.. spray the imt's with throttle body cleanerand see what it does.
those are a weak point..

the imt's are the 2 black caps with sensor plugs coming out of them on the passenger side back of the engine. They are on the end of the intake manifolds.

I think you can blow smoke around the hoses and you will see it get
sucked in where the vacuum leak is.

Here is what real men do............ get a propane
torch, the kind you use for soldering copper pipes.
Start the engine. Open the valve on the torch so you can
hear the gas coming out. (don't light the torch!)
Now "spray" around the vacuum hoses and listen for the
engine idle to change. When the propane gets sucked in
the idle will go up and you have pin pointed the leak!

Carb cleaner works too but is not as much fun! LOL!

Alright Gents it is definitely the brake boost hose. I can hear/feel the air escaping, and see that it has deteriorated. If I grab the bulge in the middle the hissing stops. Can I just replace the bulge in the middle or do I have to buy the whole hose? Can I purchase that at a Autozone or do I have to specially order it.?

Mohrd where is your location if I need to get it from you?

Thanks again guys!

Just cut the whole hose off at both nipples and bring it to
an auto parts store and get a new piece of vacuum hose of
the same size. Ya, I am sure someone will say you need to
use Jag hose...............LOL![sm=dontgetit.gif]

JagXV6, really? Doesn't the check valve serve a purpose? Regulates pressure/back pressure or something like that. Can you just bypass it?

Mago304, I'm in western Canada...

There are two hoses. One runs from the maifold to the check valve and the
other from the check valve to the brake booster. I meant to cut off which
ever side has the leak in it. I belive there is a nipple on both sides of the
check valve but Imay be mistaken. It appears that way in the picture
that was posted above. The purpose of the check valve is to prevent
the vacuum from bleeding out of the brake booster as the manifold
vacuum changes with throttle opening.

The hose does not have a leak. The actual check valve is what is leaking air. Thats why i was asking if I can just replace the check valve
