tford, as for high mileage, what kind of mileage are we talking about here? With newer cars, as long as they have been taken care of, you should be able to get 300,000 miles out of the car without any major rebuilds of vital components.
As for getting another key made for the car with the keyfob attached, yes, this is possible. The question is how much you want to spend to get this done. Keep in mind that ease and cost are going to be opposites in this case. You can simply go to the dealership and they will be able to cut you a new key and have you on your way in about 30 minutes or so. But, plan on spending about $500 to have this done (yes, this is for a single key like you are after). The other end of the spectrum is looking on a place like E-bay, finding a used keyfob, obtaining a new key blank (can be obtained through E-bay or the local dealer), putting the two together and then having a local locksmith cut the key for you. From there, you can program the key yourself (only need a key that is already programmed for the car). That should only run you about $100 total (keyfob for around $20, key blank $10, locksmith about $70).
With this being said, if you don't have any keys at the moment, then you are almost forced to go to Jag to have them cut a new key for you unless you have a higher end locksmith in your neighborhood that has the special computer that can access your car's computer.
Since you are down in Hampton Roads area, you will have lots of options when it comes to locksmiths. But, for a Jaguar Dealership, you have 1 option (Flag Jag on VA Beach BLVD). How do I know this, I used to work at Newport News Shipyard and lived in Norfolk.
HOpefully this answered what you are after. If you need to find out how to program a key yourself, look in the FAQ's, there is a good write up there that will step you through doing this.

tford, seeing how it is a new car to you, just a warning: You drive it sensibly, it will last another 100K miles no problem; you drive it like a sports car, plan on having deep pockets, the transfer case will eat you alive. The transfer case in these cars is the weak link. You shoot light to light with the car, you will be replacing the transfer case in 30K miles to the tune of about $3000. You drive sensibly, you can never replace the transfer case. Not saying you can't goose the car once in while, just understand what it may cost you if you do it too often. Beyond that, keep an eye out in the "South" region forums. I'm going to see if I can arrange some sort of BBQ this summer up around Fredericksburg so we can all put names to car and to the people here on the forums.

tford, the aftermarket chips for our cars are good money pits. You are not going to get hardly anything out of the chip. In the long run, you will have spent more money on the chip than the gas savings (if any) that you are going to see. Save your money and get the Mina Exhaust upgrade. If you are going to see a change, it will be with that. In an hour, I can install that upgrade. Very easy to do if you have the right tools. I did it recently to NAV's X-Type in my driveway. If you do some looking around, you can see pics of what all is involved.
stshots, unfortunately, you are correct. To program a new key, you need 2 good keys. The only ways around this is to 1) find a local locksmith that has the correct computer to override the security computer, or 2) go to the Jag dealership and have them program the key for you (about $100 if the dealership does it since they are going to charge you for a 1 hour minimum labor charge).

If you have two working keys you can do it like this:
Insert the first programmed working key and turn to the on position, wait for red security light to flash by cupholder and remove. Insert second key and turn it to on, wait for the red light again, remove, insert the 3rd key, turn and the security light should flash once. Start the car. this should program the third "blank" transponder.

With only one, you'll need to call around and ask your local locksmiths if they can program it. Most won't have the right equipment but a few will. If you can find someone to do it for less than $100, I'd say do it as Jag will likely charge around $100 - $150.
