'03 2.5l manual, quick instance of surging and CEL
First things first...have not had a chance to pull the code(s). This just happened last night and I do not have the code-reader at the house.
As I was coming home and then again after leaving from the store, I had two instances where it basically bogged down as if starved for fuel and would not stay above 3K RPM in gear (but would rev higher when shifted to neutral). After two or three attempts at revving in neutral, the car would then surge when put back into either 2nd or 3rd gear (based on the speed I was traveling at the time).
The surge is best described by analogy as being the sort of thing you might have experienced in the old carb days where something was trapped in a fuel filter and freed itself up, thus relieving whatever had caused the brief starvation. The other analogy would be the sort of thing that occasionally existed with bad fuel...partner had the car the last time it needed to be filled and I do not know where she had filled up.
After the first incident, it threw the CEL. I was close to the store I had to stop at and when I was leaving from the store, I noticed that the CEL was briefly flashing before going back to a solid on condition. Five or six miles down the road, the symptoms repeated themselves and cleared just as quickly.
I know the code(s) will help more than anything else, but I was hoping someone else may have had similar conditions present themselves and could volunteer what the issue turned out to have been...
