Smile 04 Xtype 3.0 recent check engine and limp mode

Hello All!
I'm glad I've found this forum. Anyway, I had my oil changed to synthetic and recently in the morning, a little red gear appears on the dash, I think this is the "check engine light"? Or is it the transmission? I bought the car used and of course no owners manual to read....

The car stays in the RPM range of about 3000 and the car has no power. I turn the car off for about 20 seconds and restart and no more problems until the car sits for over 8 hours then I have to go through the process all over again.

I also used a lower octane fuel for the past 2 tankfulls. I used the mid grade just to try and save a few bucks.

I guess the question, is i the synthetic oil, the lower octane gas, or a whole different problem? I havent had any problems since I bought the car a year ago.

It has 64,000 miles on it. And it has the automatic tranny (I think they all do)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you search the forums there is lots of info on this issue.

In the FAQ's there is this...

Probably has noothing to do with the oil or gas, how ever I would not cheap out on the gas. You will benefit from it in the long run - besides, I get 2 extra miles to the gallon on premium. Less fillups in the long run, do why not right?

Default Looked at old postings

My situation seems different.

Anyway, I took the car to Autozone, they checked for codes however, there weren't any error codes coming up.

I don't quite get this. Anyway, the engine light has not come back on. I also added some octane boost to the previous gas and will try to use only Premium to see if that helps.

I also gave a listen to the engine at idle and there is no air leaks or sounds out of the ordinary that I could tell of.

I have read of many different issues from throttle body, leaking hoses etc. Has anyone else experienced my same situation ?

Thanks!

Default great....a mysterious problem

Of course I end with a mystery issue. I wonder if it is because of all the rain in S. Fla. maybe something got wet inside causing intermittent problems?

I will keep the forum posted on this.

I sent you pm with some stuff that might help - also is an owners manual.

Do you think maybe you over filled the car with oil? This could have fouled the plugs?

Default Update:

It was the powertrain light that came on, not the engine. It has not come on since. I went to Autozone to see what codes would come up and nothing came up! Zero. I thought this was a indicator malfunction with the exception each time the light came on (2 times) the car went into Limp home mode until I turned the car off, waited about 20 seconds and turned back on without a problem.

Therefore, if this happens again, I will assume its a computer issue or transmission problem. However the car has been shifting perfect since I got it.

I will keep y'all posted.

I had a similar issue, it reset and was fine after a restart. Not sure what is going on there.
