05 diesel rough idle and cuts out
Hi can anyone help. My X-Type has a rough sounding idle under 1000r but it sounds OK when the revs are increased just over 1000r. It also completely cuts out usually when I am I am in 4th gear at 50mph when I hold the clutch in for a few seconds. The car just dies as if it was switched off, I loose my steering brakes etc and the battery light comes on. The revs seem to go down naturally then loose them selves as they pass 1000r as the idle seems not to kick in on time. The car immediately bump starts or starts with the key when tried. There is no spluttering or misfiring other than that the car performs well. Any ideas? Thanks

There have been a lot of diesel posts since the weather has gotten cold. The diesel car owners should be very careful with fuel quality when the weather gets cold also change that fuel filter and add a additive if the car starts to act up BEFORE there is a MIL. Also diesels need a good strong battery especially in a Jag as they have a low tolerance for bad batteries and diesels have a low tolerance for fuel that is thicker. The nominal fuel pressure for a diesel is ABOUT 5000 LBS when fuel get gelled or the filter gets dirty you see the kind of problems that have been showing up . Use only #1 filtered fuel. In the warmer weather it is more forgiving but when the weather changes more care needs to be taken.Believe it or not

Hi, I have an X Type 2.0 Diesel Estate and I used to have the same problem, that was until I read the car manual. You must fully depress the clutch pedal and wait for the coil light to go off before starting. Otherwise it seems to send a fault signal causing it to power out just as you need to accelerate. Also only use high grade diesel such as Shell Vpower diesel - cheap super market fuels clog these cars up and gives crap performance along with low MPG. Since I have done this along with getting the car 'Terracleaned' it is so much more responsive and far better MPG. Hope this helps?
