Dave, humor me on this. What I want you to try doing is putting the key in the driver's door and rotating it about half way to the unlock position and then carefully bring the key back to a position that you can remove it. Now try unlocking the car. Did it seem to work? If yes, then odds are you are having issues with the door handle and the switch that tells the computer to lock/unlock the locks from the key is out of alignment. You can try the same thing by taking the key towards the lock direction and then removing the key. You can play with it some and go more or less in each direction.
The fix will be getting into the door and tightening things up if this is the case. Otherwise, it is hard to say what is going on without having the car hooked up to the special jaguar computer to see what the PATS computer is seeing.

Just my penneth - Thermo is the man on this, but it *may* be worth checking the ignition barrel on the steering column as there is a small cover that slides over the keyhole when there is no key inserted.. if this flap does not close it disables the remote fob as it thinks you are in the car... if this is the case a little light oil on it will solve it
