Default 2.0D Poor Fuel Consumption

Hi everyone,

I've had my 2005 2.0D Estate Sport about a month, I've filled the tank 3 times and worked out the mpg as accurate as possible using the brim it, and then re-brim it and calculate fuel used over an exact distance (near as anyway). I'm getting 32.75mpg. Love the Car, but not happy with the economy. Its not too far off the 3.2D LWB Shogun I got rid of for economic reasons. A work colleague as an X and he's getting around 50mpg so I know its possible.

Any ideas would be gratefully received. By the way I'm using Shell Diesel, I've put some Redex in the tank and I drive on a mixture of motorway and main roads in a conservative manner.

Cheers
Ian

Check your tire pressure, air filter and change the fuel filter.

Tyre pressures are checked weekly, 34lbs front, 32lbs rear.

I'll change the air filter, the car was serviced a month ago, I presume the fuel filter was changed then.
I think may be the egr valve needs a clean also.

Thanks for the input guys.

Hi Ian.....re your mpg at 32.7[&:] Can't be right mate, gotta be a prob somewhere that needs checked out.
I'm running a 3.0 A6 at the minute and getting on average 41.2mpg .....on a long motorway run I can see 52.1mpg.
A Ford Mondeo ST I had recently was averaging 49.4mpg and could see 55mpg on a long run too.
I know of guys running there x type 2.0d and easily achieving 50+ mpg on long runs and mid 40's as an average.
Get it checked out.

Good luck

Jim
