2.5 V6 X Type Oxygen sensor fault
Can anyone help,
I have a P1646 code fault aswell as another code which I forget the number.
The 2fault descriptions are :
i) HO2S bank 1 sensor 2
ii) Linear O2 sensor control chip bank 1
Which oxygen sensor is causing the fault Upstream, Downstream, Left, Right, Black, Grey ?
There are 4 sensors, 2 upstream of cat (1 black & 1 grey) & 2 downstream (again 1 black & 1 grey).
Appreciate any help, Cheers, Paul.

Code p1646 bank 1 sensor 1 o2 sensor control malfunction. Bank 1 is the rear bank and sensor 1 is the upstream sensor which you can see if you look between the engine inlet manifold and the brake booster(LHD). It is screwed into the manifold and has the grey connector next to the booster. You can check power to the heater on the white with green stripe wire. Any other testing will require a scan tool with datalogging capabilities. There were some VINs around your year that had their wires for that sensor twisted up by a faulty tool in the factory but you should be able to see that sort of damage easily.

RE: 2.5 V6 X Type Oxygen sensor fault
Real_Tech,
thanks for your reply but fault message I got was P1646 which gave message Bank 1 sensor 2 (not 1 as in your reply) ?
From your reply do I take it that my fault must be rear sensor as it is both Bank 1 & sensor 2 ?
As there are 2 rear sensors, is there any way of telling which is faulty from this code (bank 1 sensor 2), either the grey or black connector ?
Again, thanks for your help trying to sort this as I dont want to damage catalytic converter driving with faulty sensor (already been faulty about 6weeks).
Cheers, Paul.

RE: 2.5 V6 X Type Oxygen sensor fault
I'm looking at the code book for X-type right now as it was still open from the post on Friday and P1646 is listed as bank 1 sensor 1, P1647 is listed as bank 2 sensor 1.
Again, i would look at the rear bank upstream sensor heater circuit or fuse. It's the one described in my original post.

Did you ever get an answer to your questions
Hi there. I am new to these forums and after leaving my car in a local garage for 2 days and a full tank of petrol later i was told my fault was on bank 1. This contradicts what my obd reader tells me p1647 which suggests bank 2 sensor 1. (I believe this may be the drivers side pre cat ?). He halso told me he could not get the part for my car as it has an irish plate. (Funny i have logged on a few sites to search for parts and each time i entered my registration my exact make and model came up). I eventually took my car to another garage who got the same code P1647 and has asked me to get 2 sensors just incase pre and post (is this really necessary ) at £80 + a piece i have been quoted this seems wasteful ?Did you ever find out the best(cheapest) place to buy these and can anyone please help me by confirming the code does refer to bank 2 sensor 1 ? Any help is hugely appreciated as i am just losing money here every place i turn it seems.
