Hi all,
I'm new to these forums and am about to trade for my first jaguar. I'm getting a 2.5 v6 Sport AWD. I'm just wondering, it comes with what I assume is the bottom of the range basic cassette player. Can this be swapped out for a more modern cd/sat nav unit from another x-type? Will only certain (head unit is it?) fit and can anyone recommend a particular model? Would it be best to stick with a genuine jaguar stereo? Ideally I've been looking at the ones that come with built-in Sat-Nav ect.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Mark, the short of the story for what you are contemplating is Yes, it is possible. BUT!!!!!! By the time you get all the parts needed to make it work, you might as well buy a new car. Cars with the NAV system have a completely different setup for the dash HVAC-heat and this requires you to essentially replace the whole dash to make it work. By the time you get all the new parts, new harness, new ......., you will have a pretty penny in the setup. At this point in the game, I would say to spend an extra $500 on the X-TYpe you want instead of spending way more than that trying to upgrade to the factory NAV radio.
On a side note, there is plenty of room to upgrade the non-NAV radio with some aftermarket unit with lots of options in it and that will keep things reasonable. Then you can pick what you want and go from there. Do some looking here on the site as there are some specific things that you will need to make the radio work (there is a special trim piece you will need, special wiring harness, and an antenna adapter at a minimum).
