2002 / 03 x-type phone question

This may sound obvious, but is there a phone handset in the top part of the arm rest? It would seem a little funny to have button there that has no purpose.
I've got nav and phone in my 03 - rather than look into bluetooth conversion, i've put in a prepaid sim. If you've got it the phone system is very well integrated - a very user friendly, classy addition

ya i tried with my old phone, i will try with my new one. but i honestly don't think i have that feature equipped. i dont have that button they were talkin about by the armrest, at least that I can see. I will call the Jag Tech support or a dealership to ask them too. They should be able to tell from my VIN number or somethin.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Bluetooth is available on certain '03 models (VIN specific) and newer models. It does, however, need to be installed from the dealer (or I suppose you could do it yourself if your handy enough) and I believe you need to have the microphone installed. From what I hear, it's close to $2,000 to have it done.
If you can find it, I would recommend looking at the X-Type accessories brochure. I tried to find it on Jaguar's North American website but I couldn't. The brochure should give you the VINs that the bluetooth is compatable with.
With the bluetooth installed, you can use the phone buttons and keypad on the steering wheel/radio to make calls from selected bluetooth phones. Some phones will also allow the transfer on the phone's phonebook to the cars radio / nav display. Again, the brochure will give you more information. Hope this helps...

If the Jaguar bluetooth system (for which barely any 2003's are compatible) for the X-Type is as bad as the factory S-Type system, my advice is save your money and buy a $50 Plantronics earpiece instead. (That translates to being only 40 times cheaper than the Jaguar system!)
The BT on my 2006 S-Type R is pathetic. The RF mixer performance is horrible, leaving the listener on the other end with a dominant humming sound, and your voice as a faint echo in the background. In short, it has the audio quality of a 10 year old's Playskool walkie talkie. And for $2k, that's waayyyy overpriced. I don't use it for business or personal calls as nobody -- landline or cellphone -- can ever hear through the humming noise.
BT on the new XF's is supposed to be awesome, though.

Well, ya, mine does not have it then. When I hit the phone button on the NAVI unit, it jus says that "This system is not phone fitted". I take that as it don't have it installed. I just got a little excited that it might already be in it. I wouldn't consider paying even $500 for that system, let alone $2000. I will just use my bluetooth as always if it comes down to it.
Thanks!!!

I believe if you enter your VIN it tells you whether your car is compatible with the Jaguar Bluetooth System. When you enter your phone info, it tells you whether or the phone is compatible and if so, which features are enabled. I haven't tried this personally, as the '02 X-Type I'm looking to buy I know for a fact is not compatible with the Bluetooth system. Hope that helps. Good luck.

so you have already entered your VIN on that website and it says the vehicle is not compatible? If so that means that my vehicle might have it after all, I just am not setting it up correctly. The instructions just all say to enter in like ##3.... but i don't see any keys at all.
Anyways, I will look into this more when I get back from my work trip this week.
Thanks!!

I didn't bother entering my VIN because Bluetooth for the X-Types is only available on select '03 models and '04-newer. If I get an '02, there's no point in checking.
I did find the X-Type's accessories brochure which gives you the VINs that are compatible with the Bluetooth system for the X-Type.
Note, if your VIN is compatible, it does not mean your car already has the Bluetooth installed. It simply means that it is prewired to have the Bluetooth system installed. The phone buttons are on all X-Types, regardless if it has Bluetooth/is compatible with Bluetooth or has the hard wired phone offered in older Jags. As I said before, I hear it's about $2,000 to have the Bluetooth installed. However, it would allow you to dial calls straight from your radio/nav screen and allow the transfer of your cell's phonebook (certain phones). In addition, it would display signal strength, batter life, etc.
Here is the link for the brochure. I'm sure this will help out anyone looking to install Bluetooth on their X-Type. It should also give a starting point on which questions to ask your dealer if you plan on having the dealer install it.

phone question
Sorry to tell you this, but the 03 system is no longer useable. I have a '03, My 03 was delivered with nav, phone, and voice. When the US went to the analog phone system, the phone and bluetooth integrated with the nav were rendered useless. I use a bluetooth on the visor, and the old system for a phone book. Hope this helps... Don
