OH BOY! Read up buddy! You obviously don't know what you are getting yourself into. My S-type has 106K miles, and no major problems so far, but I did my research and I knew what to buy. Read up well on the cars first. If you're going to go with the 02-03 X, make sure it's a manual and the 3.0, as the 2.5 is not only slower, but also not as dependable. READ READ READ though!

The lifters, the air compressor is more likely to faulter, the timing chain rattles, the oil level sensor goes bad...I can go on, but would have to do more research.

Oil level sensor - I'm not sure why that'd be more likely to happen on the 2.5 than the 3.0, when the chances are they're probably the same. Hell aren't the engines pretty much the same except the bore/stroke is different?

Didn't you end up finding one 325? As others have said just keep your mind on every car and not one in particular...thus in the end you will find the best deal for you and the best possible car for the money...she'll fall in your lap once you let it happen. I couldn't find much in your area but look around and don't just limit youself to nearby. Look on ebay and at some nearby or within a small distance from you jaguar dealers....if your not afraid of some problems look into that one you speak of. I looked it up on autotrader as it is on there for 9900 knock them down tell them 8500. I have the 2002 3.0 sport and have had problems but just make sure you give it a good look through is all...walk if your afraid or for the money you saved for that one buy an aftermarket warranty and feel better that way...

Wow, thats a lot of miles. I will be happy if my Jag will go to 100,000 without any major problems. I bought my 2002 X-Type 2.5 Auto Trans last year with 55,000 miles. Right now I have 69,000.
I've been very happy with it since it has all the options I wanted except heated seats. oh well, you can't have everything.
The only problem besides maintenance issues was the Mass Air Flow Sensor. I guess it helps that my transmission and differential were replaced by the dealer by the previous owner. And I have no warranty so I am hoping for the best.

My driveshaft was replaced by dealer luckily...otherwise I've just had stupid problems...

The only issues I've had were the usual for the mileage. I'll need front struts, but the car has 90k on it now. I know I'll need a clutch soon, but I'm gonna ride it out until January and get it done because I know it still has at least a few more months left.
Other than that, I've gotten a set of tires and regular oil changes. I had to change a coolant hose, which took about an hour of my time. I thought I had an issue with the DSC, but turns out that my brake switch became detached, and that took all but 60 seconds to fix and saved me a trip to the dealer.
If I could, I'd change the clutch myself and save myself a good bit of $$$. But I'm not sure I could do it with confidence.

Fortunately for me I've only had small little what I call Jag quirks...stupid small things...when I bought the car I noticed a noise that the car made and I let the dealer know and they replaced the driveshaft because they said that was it...well the noise went away and a 1200 dollar part later and about 20 minutes of the gmc mechanics time and the new one was on there....I did just have a hose that is under the plastic engine cover go bad. Honestly if I were all of you I'd check to see this hose isn't cracked like mine. I'll take pics of it asap...I just got back last night from my trip so it might take me a sec...

Yeah buck how hard? They don't have a kit with seat coolers too do they?
Hey sparty...I changed mine in the autozone parking lot...hardest part was going in there and finding the right tube...5 minutes later I was outty...the same guy that cleared the codes on the car earlier in the week was there again...It also fixed my rough idle I had at times...I'm sure its a common problem....I bet everyone with a x has some sort of crack in it and nobody knows yet...mine was cracked so bad I bet it was a few year old crack...probably not but it sure looked like it! I'll post pics asap...
