2002 x-type clicking noise
O.K, this is my first post in this forum. I just bought a 2002 x-type 3.0 with 69k on it. It is an automatic and drives great. It seems to shift with no issues at all. The only problem is that when I release my foot from the brake I can hear a strange clicking noise. It sounds like a relay clicking. It only seems to happen wiht the brake. The noise seems to be coming from under the stability controll button near the shifter. I tried turning the stability on and off but the noise is still there. Again it only happens when I relese my foot from the brake-Any ideas?
Thanks Joe M.

THE FAULT IS A BAD PARK MICROSWITCH, AS YES ITS ONLY AVAIL WITH A NEW SHIFTER ASSMBLY. BUT IT CAN BE REPLACED WITHOUT REPLACING THE WHOLE SHIFTER BUT USING A PIC TO POP IT UP, CUT THE 2 WIRES AND BUTT CONNECT THE NEW SWITCH TO THESE WIRES AND INSTALL THE NEW SWITCH. YOU ONLY HAVE TO REMOVE THE SURROUND SHIFTER TRIM AND THE KNOB AND J GATE MODULE(THE BLACK PRND) TOP WITH THE 4 TORX SCREWS HOLDING IT TO THE ASSEMBLY

My '02 is doing the same thing but I usually only hear the clicking when it is cold
outside. The Park switch being bad makes more senseIt didn't seem to me that it
would be a good idea to have the solinoid being turned on and off each time the
brake was applied. I assume the switch is in series with the solinoid and goes
open once the shifter is out of park so no power gets applied to the solinoid
when the brake is depressed???
I'd like to poke around and check that switch out too. How does the wood trim piece
and shifter knob come off? Does the trim just get gentely pryed up and theknob unscrew???
Something tells me the trim piece is not going to be cheap is if I break it!
