chrisC, first off, welcome to the Forums. I think you will find a lot of useful information here. But, we are a friendly bunch and we like to get to know one another. Part of this we ask you to stop by the New Member section and introduce yourself. This will also give you a chance to meet those that make this place what it is and gives you an idea of how we are a different breed of car group. I think once you get to see what all happens here, you will appreciate what we are.
As for your problem, I would recommend calling around to some of the local locksmiths and see if they have the computer needed to tap into the ECM and/or PATS module to program the new key. From the sounds of things, your car is not recognizing the digital signature of the new key and therefore is giving you the results that you are seeing. This is done to prevent say a valet from making a copy of your key and coming by later to steal your car. A good locksmith will have a computer that will be able to hook up to the car, tell the computer to accept the key that you have, and to remove the other key from the computer memory (that way whoever took your key cannot steal your car later). They should be able to do this for you for around $100. But the price will vary based on the shop that you call. Just be ready to prove that the car is yours. Most localities require this of the locksmiths.
