If you want to really start a topic about engine wear.. do so..... and I will contribute as a engineer. I am a professional engineer and I may offer technical, and legally binding answers to questions.
Regardless, there is nothing that could come of this conversation so *poof*

Wow...this thread went WAY off topic.
One is correct about his initial statement. bojangles went off the top to bring in irrelivant information that really has nothing to do with the post.
bojangles, I could easily argue that you should sell the Jag and get a Hybrid because that would be "doing more than you're doing right now" to help the enviroment. You brought in an unfair assesment that really had no valid reasoning behind it. IMHO
Perhaps there should be a debate forum here for off-topic crap.

NOTHING WRONG?????????? NO HARM????
hmm.. may I remind you of the environment? global warming? carbon footprint? been in the news everyday for years now... YES! I think that there is something wrong with changing the oil unnnecessarily. There has been advances with technology, and unless you are an expert scientist in engine oil, I think an opinion is just that.. an opinion... the facts tell the truth.

A few things.. I don't believe that man has causes Global Climate Change, ask the overwhelming majority of Climatologists if you don't believe me. Asking a Biologist or a Geologist about Climate is valid only if you are trying to track how it may affect their particular fields. I could care less about my Carbon Footprint unless I'm driving a 1985 Ford 350 Super Duty truck that uses Regular fuel. I don't have heavy fuel burning cars because I don't like filling up every day. I don't like the smell. I don't like pollution. I could care less about my Carbon Footprint....I'll just do what Gore does and buy some Carbon Offsets if I get that bad..

I still wanna say that I am not a tree hugger, I am not a huge believer in the global warming crisis.. there are a few interesting book that take some very contrary positions on this.
I do think it is silly to dump perfectly good oil... even if it is recycled.
The post I replied to said there is NO harm, and that is wrong. no matter what the actual situation on carbon footprint is. there is harm caused by oil changes. Minor or not, it is not zero... there is some teeny harm done.
I stand by my point - it is quite valid.
and I wont play personal insults with "one".. his behaviour is not terribly kind, and he does not know me at all. I will argue about technical issues agressively, but please dont just swear at me. believe it or not. I am trying to help us all. Even Jim is better with his adverbs and I am happy about that

Alright guys, I'm locking this thread. As nice as it is to see you argue, I don't appreciate for one of our forums' most productive posters to be treated in the way he's being treated. His posts are never like mines which talk about what Race and Smidge do on the weekends, or the way Jimbo and Aquill bend. If you don't agree with him, or his points of view, too bad. The fact is we are not environmentally conscious but if you feel like doing an oil change every 500 or 5000 miles, do so. It's not like I, or anyone else on this forum gives a **** and is going to stop you. Doesn't mean you have to curse bo out for his comments which are always intelligent and backed up with facts and evidence. One, you have respect from my part because of the great introduction you had and IC gave you a great recommendation, and your DIY's on ClubLex are awesome, but please don't blow it by simply cursing someone out because of a point of view he had, especially seeing as he never even remotely insulted you. He said he would discuss on another thread the oil subject. Fellow mods, I would very much appreciate your input here, so please unlock, post your comments, and lock back up. Bonelee, if you still have questions about your engine, which I'm sure you do as this thread went WAY off topic, please start another thread. Ahh, I love the power that has been bestowed upon me. LOCKED!

I agree with Biggie on this. Bo can sometimes rub members up the wrong way, however, his posts are always informative and insightful, and no matter what, his views should be respected.
I feel sometimes that there is too much nagativity going around and members can be quick to have a go, rather than sort things out.
Having said that, in general, I still believe it to be a fantastic forum and we should all try and just get along.
After all, we all share the same passion for our cars, isn't that the common denominator?
RELOCKED
