Ah, the Silverstars are nice, as long as you aren't crippled by the delivery system. LOL They're pretty expensive but the last I checked Amazon has the H1's on sale for 19.98 a pair after a $5 mail in rebate. FYI if you spend $25 on Amazon (on Amazon products, not other sellers advertising through Amazon) you get free shipping. So all in all it's not a bad deal.
The problem with using 80w bulbs in housings meant for 55w is you can draw too much current which will cause the same problem. If your voltage remains the same (which it does, it's a 12v system) and you run higher wattage that means the system compensates by using more current. Current = heat, simple molecular agitation at work. That's why I liked the Silverstars and the APC knock offs, they offered brighter light (4100-4300K is the optimum range for headlights as that most closely approximates natural sunlight), longer range and a slightly wider beam without going the 80w route.
