2004 x type 3.0 front alignment problem
The passenger side tire leans in at top and outward at bottom. Tire wears out on inner side. Replaced both sides lower control arms. Did not help. When you lift car tire straightens out but when you lower it leans again. Was told the strut might be bent. Plz help

top140, based on what you are describing, I would lift the tire off of the ground and then put my hands on the sides of the tire (3 and 9 o'clock positions). Do not put them at the top and bottom for safety reasons. Now, while watching the suspension, attempt to turn the tire from the outside of the car (like you were making a turn around a corner). Do you see something moving? Odds are, you are either going to see movement between the tire and the spindle or you will see something around the strut move.
Please keep in mind that with the design of our suspensions, there tire does not remain perfectly straight up and down as is goes through it range of motion. It does pop out at the top as that corner of the car is lifted. So, you would be seeing something "normal" if the tire is perfectly straight up and down with it off of the ground and then having it lean in as you place the car back on the ground. The question is how much is it changing. Thinking back to my car, I get about a 1/4" of kick out on the top of the tire when I lift it off the ground.

SOunds like the bushings at the frame rail are in need of replacement. You can try lifting the tire off of the ground again and then using a 2x4 or something of the like, stick that under the tire and then try to push the tire sideways (in at the bottom) and see what moves then. I bet you will see something move then. If I had to take a wild guess, the mount at the rear of the lower arm is shot and you need a new lower arm. But, prove the bad part before you just go replacing parts ***** nilly.

OK I will try the 2x4 thing to see if anything moves. Both driver and passenger side lower control arms with new bushings in them were replaced two months ago. I had this done because I thought that was the problem. My wife is riding my back harder than one bull in a ten cowboy rodeo to get this fixed.

jamey, I would ask the shop that says you have to take it to Jaguar to complete the alignment what specifically needs to be done (play dumb and have them spell it out for you, or even write it down). There is nothing that an average alignment shop cannot do to our cars. There is nothing special except for maybe moving around the subframes (most alignment shops are not setup to do that). But, a competent mechanic (not Jaguar) could do that for you.
