Default 2006 X-Type Transmission Shift Lever Stuck

Hello everyone, I recently purchased an 3.0L X-Type VDP with 156,000 miles on it for real cheap. I was told the car was stuck in neutral. It was believed to be stuck due to the gear shifter but I've since found out the shift lever on the transmission itself is stuck and it is somewhat rusty. I was wondering what the best way to go about getting it unstuck and I have a few questions.

Is there any electronics that need to be engaged on these cars for the lever to move or should it move freely?

Should I just spray some penetration fluid and use a pry bar or will I just break things?

Finally how likely is it that there's something internally wrong with the transmission?

Thank you all, any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

First can you start car?
Does it allow you to shift into any gear?
If no, do you hear a "click" sound from the box by shift lever if you just sit still and press on the brake release press brake?
No, then the disengage relay on the brake pedal is bad. There are 2 one for release of shifter, the other for cruise cancelation.

Here's a post on last possible problem (be sure to also read the post with link for resolution).

Thanks for the reply The, the car will not start yet but I do hear the click from the gear shifter when I press the brake. The car doesn't seem to shift into drive, only neutral and 2nd 3rd and fourth. The lever on the transmission itself is stuck and won't budge.
