Default 2008 X-Type TPMS

I'm trying to get my dad's X-Type ready to sell*. It's a 2008 and has TPMS. There's a TPMS system failure warning on the dashboard. My mom said that the tire shop said that one or more of the sensors had failed, and that we'd have to take it to a dealer to have the sensors programmed to the car. My questions are as follows:
  1. Do the sensors really need to be programmed to the car by a dealer?
  2. Can I just have the tire shop replace the sensors and drive around for a while for them to calibrate?
  3. Do I need to go with OEM sensors or are the cheap ones on Ebay good enough?
Thank you!

*He has Parkinson's and can't drive anymore. I'd take the car, but I have an XJS and that is enough Jaguars for me.

Why is Jaguar X-Type tire pressure light on?

If Jaguar X-Type TPMS warning light comes on and stays on, it means at least one of the tires is underinflated. If TPMS warning light goes on and off, fluctuating ambient temperatures may be the reason. If Jaguar X-Type TPMS warning light flashes for 90 seconds when you start the vehicle and then remains illuminated, the TPMS is not functioning properly and you should have it serviced.

Thanks, Dell. It's not indicating that the tires are under-inflated, and I've checked with a gauge, but that there's a TPMS system fault. And the tire place checked the sensors and one or more are not transmitting. My question is, do I need to go to a dealer to get the sensors matched to the car, or can I just buy new sensors and have the tire place swap them? And are the after-market sensors OK?

The TPMS sensors do not need to be programmed. They are programmed simply by driving the car for several miles.

Thank you, sov211. I'll probably go with OEM Siemens sensors and have a tire shop fit them.

Dell, I don't know if there's a TPMS button. I'll check next time I'm in the car.

Quick update: no TPMS button under the steering wheel. I decided to order Continental 315 MHz TPMS sensors, which are the replacements for the original Siemens VDO sensors. Will report back once they arrive.

Continental VDO 315 MHz sensors were replaced by a gas station. No programming needed. No resetting needed. No activation needed. They just worked after driving a few times!
