I wouldn't say the X has the most restrictive exhaust ever. I've heard better, I've heard worse. Heck, you can't even hear a Camry or Accord even run for crissakes.

Like the poster who make the comment about ****/obscenity....there is some personal preference involved.

From personal experience, the best sounding exhausts I have had are:
1) Saab 9000 Aero - 3" downpipe, no cat, Flowmaster 40 series
2) Saab 900 Turbo - 2.5 dp, all stainless, Flowmaster 50 series
3) Jeep ZJ - 4.0 H.O. - Borla headers and stainless - 3"
4) Mustang Cobra - as-is
5) T-Bird Turbo coupe - 3" stainless
6) X type - stock mufflers drilled out

Um, Chris for the love of my aching left ********.....you are not a car guy are you??-- or you're just real young and naive......and don't know any better....but alas i forgive you.

You fail to mention a full flow 327, 350, 454, 396, hemi....the list list is long in my book and it doesn't cover and of the aforementioned POS cars you mentioned.

You like the sound of a Saab??!! for christ sake dude...you on dope??!!
Jeep 4.0 ??? WTF is that.... a 6 cylinder??
Mustang cobra stock??!

You must have never heard the the beautiful sound of a v-8 running thru a true dual exhaust......just thumping away in a deep note that'll wake your neighbors up at 6 am.

Don't confuse the rice burner with that awful sounding headaching inducing vomit producing sound they make. One word covers it....HORRIBLE.

Get out and go to a real car show....have someone fire up their big block 500 and sit back and enjoy the music and never be confused again!!!

I think Ford and those Stangs have the right idea when it comes to exhausts. That gt500 sounds great stock, but when you open them up man that is beautiful...

Racerx is going to flame me on this I can tell, but I knew this guy I use to race in the morning on my way to work. We would meet up a few lights before we boarded the expressway - he had a subaru wrx riced out, but I tell you what, that car had such a growl to it - I never met the guy to ask what he did with that car. But oh man, it sounded good coming from a VERY big mustang exhaust fan!! (here it comes - lol_

lol.....ok ok...i'll give you that....i too happened to have raced a tricked out wrxsti or whatever it was....i will admit his car sounded really good with the blow off valve and whatnot.....

Unfortunately, the poor guy just didn't have what it took to take me....oh well...something about all show and no.......something....i can't remember how that phrase goes....

I do remember one phrase.....wheres my beer damn it!....lol

I will ignore your childish insults. By personal experience I mean cars that I have owned myself, not heard at car shows or on the street. Absolutely there are better sounding cars out there, but I have not owned them. A member of my family does have a 67 Chevy II with a 327 that sounds better than any car I have owned.

Perhaps you are the one who is "on dope" if you get that agitated at a benign post. Grow up.

ooo shiiiit not again..
lol..
lets not do this again...
remember the whole bojangles incident...

but anyways..
a "restrictive" exhaust doesnt really have too much to do with sound chris.. what racer is trying to say is about the flow of the gases and what not...
it doesnt sound that great stock..
heck..
it doesnt really sound at all..
unless your exhaust manifold has a hole in it..
a 525 bmw had a better high rpm note!
not bashing the X or anything.. but you haven't heard it at its best yet..

At this point I would like to apologize to the original poster and those who have provided meaningful input. My last 2 posts are not productive. Racer succeeded in luring me into an internet pissing contest, which is lamentable, as there is nothing more pathetic.

Racer feel free to have the last "say"...I'm done and moving on to more productive discussions. Hope your ********* heal up okay.

It's Valentine's Day!!!! The day to "exhaust" arguing, even though it was amusing to see who's fire department needed either of you the most.

Chris, you mentioned a Saab 9000 Aero; kind of brought tear to my eye. I had a '95 that got totaled. Loved that car. Had some great seats in it they only had that one year, was amazing on the freeway in 3rd gear for a stock car of that size and with the seats down you could almost live in it. Styling wasn't the best, but if you needed four doors and needed some room, liked to have some fun and appreciated something quirky, that certainly fit the bill. Good stealthmobile. Thnaks for jogging the memory on this day of love.

Post exhaust and intake

Wth my .03, 3.0 sport, I find that the BORLA exhaust, and the K&N intake seem to give me more umph...It has a really nice sound...kinda like my Alfa Spyder, with the Abarth system, but not as loud. I'd suggest that if you feel the need to do some minor performance upgrades, this is the way. Reasonable, and good investment

I have the same setup in mine. Not sure if there were any real noticable performance gains, but it sounds so much better and looks better to me as well. Like you said, good bang for the buck. I'm happy

Right on. I was a little irritated - my bad. Please accept my sincere apologies Rosemont. I edited the response to remove my comments - I am doing my best to patch this up and do not wish to continue arguing. I'm in my mid 30's, I should act like it.

I've done exhaust work on every car I have owned (myself) - believe it or not that 9000 Aero sounded like an old Ferrari 308 with the flowmaster (I was running 25 psi of boost - nice blow off effect through the Forge BPV). That's why I listed the sizes and materials of the downpipes and tubing. I plan on firing up the MIG and tweaking with the X once I get some time - my Jeep build is taking waaay longer than I hoped.

Hmmm...don't wanna lock this just yet, as I'm sure all will be fine

Race, you gotta ease up bud...Chris is one of the good guys, you gotta stop the name calling. Anyways, with all the beer you've drunk since you've been on this forum and the amount of brain cells you've killed I'd say Chris probably knows at least as much as you if not more
