Default ABS engaging for no reason

I have an 03 x type 2.5 that the abs engages while braking for no reason...then after I make 2 to 3 stops the abs light pops on the dash which is signaling that the abs is no longer active until I turn the vehicle off and then it starts all over again the next time I use the car. Any ideas would be cool...I had it up on a lift and recreated the scenario...all the wheels were spinning while the car was in drive on the lift with the brakes applied.

Thats always a fun one. Put it back on the lift and look and rear outer CV joints. There should be a toothed ring where the abs sensor pokes through. Usually in rusty areas, the sensor ring actually separates from the CV joint and spins round and round. Since the ring can still spin when the wheels are stopped, the ABS thinks some of the wheels are still moving and others are locked up so it activates the ABS pump and hence your pulsation. Look closely and check both sides. I do not recommend replacing just the outer CV joint. Jaguar does recommend that. I have had zero luck getting things back together. The inner splines were too tight on the shaft so it would not slide down and click the circlip. I always ended up replacing the whole shaft. I don't recommend a Jag unit for that as they are something stupid like $800 a side. Look for aftermarket or a good rebuilder.

Is there any way to get a little tack weld on the offending ring as apposed to replacing the entire shaft...I haven't put the car back on the lift yet so I'm not sure where the ring is situated...but thought I would throw that out there.

Never tried it but you have to gain access to it which requires removing the hub carrier from the axle shaft. When you get it in the air you'll see and maybe you can. Just make sure it goes exactly where it came from, you may see some markings if the rust hasn't taken over. Its worth a shot.
