Default ABS no power RR wheel

So just bought this 07 knowing it had an ABS fault for the right rear. I searched around here before buying and figured (hoped) it was the common ring failure. Now it’s mine and the ring unfortunately looks good. I cleaned the indents with a pick anyway while I was in there. In trying to see if it was a bad sensor I found there is no power to that side while running. Drivers side has 12v on one wire and .5 volt on other while stationary. Passenger side has 0v either wire with or without sensor connected. What would be my next step(s)? Thanks

There are only three possibilities to your issue.

1) A bad sensor that is dragging down the supply voltage - very unlikely as it is a hall effect sensor.

2) More likely that you have a damaged wire or bad connector that is interrupting the B+ supply from your ABS module to this sensor. Possible pinched cable or rodent damage to a wiring loom.

3) A bad ABS module.

Here is a circuit diagram of the Anti-lock braking system....this is for 2005 model but I hope the wiring colour codes have remained the same for your 2007 year.

So the connector you undid at the sensor was probably CA65 and there should be 12 volts on pin 1 of that connector.
Using a pin, you can slip that up alongside the wire in the back of JB45 pin 13 (Green wire with black stripe) to see if you have 12 volts present coming out of the ABS module destined for your right rear sensor.
Alternatively you could undo the right rear sensor connector again and also the ABS connector JB45 so you have both ends disconnected.
You could then put a shorting link between pins 1 and 2 of the CA65 connector to basically create a long returning loop of wire that you should be able to measure as a near short with an ohms meter between pins 13 and 14 of your disconnected JB45 ABS plug.
If you don't get a very low ohms reading at the ABS plug by shorting out that sensor plug then you have an ope wire in your loom. You then need to figure out is the break before or after CA170 intermediate loom plug. Finding that plug and doing the same thing upstream and downstream should tell you which direction to hunt for loom damage.

If you do measure a short in the first test, then your issue is no 12V coming out of the ABS unit and that would need to be explored further by either opening it to see if there were any bad solder joints on the connector inside, sending it away to get it professionally repaired or sourcing a replacement.

Thanks for the response! There is no voltage at the sensor end with the sensor connected or disconnected, tested that. It’s raining now so couldn’t do much today. Did pull the plug at abs unit for a look, that was easy. Finding the pair I need there will be harder, it’s a double row and more terminals than shown. I’ll test the wires for continuity between each other and then ground while disconnected at each end. Then add a jumper and test for a break. Any idea where the CA170 connector is located and has anyone taken the control unit apart?

the cover for the pins on the abs module pops off just backprobe it

chances are it burned up the 12v ref track the signal rides on. pretty common on bosch abs modules

Finally got around to this today. Ended up being a broken wire. Got lucky and it was easily found and repaired. I had my money on the control unit but I’ll take a free repair. Thanks Y’all :-)
