Default ABS question

My ABS light has come on but there are no error codes. It still seems to function properly. But i have not tried to lockup thebrakes but have had a few panic stops. Can anyone tell me what the light is on for? Possibly the pads are now to thin?

cody, it is possible that if you have worn pads that hte ABS light is on because of low fluid level. That should be easy to confirm, add a little bit of the proper fluid. Normally, with the x-type, the ABS light comes on because of a failed wheel speed sensor and depending on the code reader, it may or may not see the code as it is a chassis (C) code. Specifically, you would be seeing a C1145, C1155, C1165, or C1175 (a code for each wheel). Not all readers will read the C-Codes. I would try a different reader first. If I had to take a guess, I would venture to guess that one of your rear sensors is acting up and the reluctance ring on the half-shaft has broken. This can be proven by simply removing the rear tires, removing the sensors and looking down in the hole. If you see a metal band with square holes in it that is tight against the metal piece inside there, the reluctance ring is good. If it is loose, that is your problem. Unfortunately, the easiest fix is putting in a new half shaft on that side.
