Actron 9550 Plus

Actron 9550 Plus
I read in the general section that the Actron 9550 Plus is a "Not recommended" code reader for the 2004 3.0L X-Type.
Can anyone tell me why?
This is the unit I have successfully (up to my latest problem of "gearbox fault") used to clear codes and restore it from limp mode.
Because I can't clear the gearbox fault (or both a P1643 and a pending P1643) and I am 1200 miles from home, I am biting the bullet and taking it to a Jaguar dealer in Jacksonville, Florida tomorrow (that whooshing sound is my wallet leaving my pocket!).
I want to obtain the most useful code reader for this car (within reason) that I can travel with for instances like what happened on this trip (monsoon rain, gearbox fault, several P codes, but I am able to get it to slowly accelerate up to 65-70mph, seems to be limping in 3rd).
Thank you all for taking the time and effort to share your knowledge.

ok, I have an elm327 code reader and the torque app on my phone. I have been able to successfully diagnose everything on my car with this tool and it fits in my glovebox. Also, you can find the bluetooth code reader on ebay for $15-20 and the app is only $5. This is an essential tool for travelling and is my only code reader that I own. It's very nice to use and also gives you realtime data from the car (I use this to check coolant temps etc while driving hard over a mountain pass where I do not want to get stranded.) The elm327 isn't for everyone, but if it sounds like it would fit you, I would highly recommend it.
