Added Sirius Radio, with pictures
So I added Sirius Radio to my X Type. The head unit was pretty small so I decided to use the ashtray. The radio used a plug-in for the cigar lighter to get it's power so I bought a 'female cigar lighter adapter' and took the power from the Jag's cigar lighter. The hole under the radio is huge so it went neatly outta sight!
The sound was fed through the ACM that I've had for a few years now. And the antenna is a small magnetic affair that sits on the trunk. I fed the very thin cable under the carpet. Again outta sight.
I used some aluminum strip to secure the head into the ash tray, which I pretty much demolished with my trusty Dremel. The sound is excellent. And after I'd figured out the head unit and the ash tray the rest was all plug-and-play. The only negative is the head unit is pretty bright at night and has no dimming capabilities. But I can close the ash tray!
I have to remember to un-plug my iPod before using the Sirius because if I try to run both through the ACM it gets a little confused and shuts off. Same when I switch back to the iPod, turn off Surius.
A very easy and satisfying project. If you don't have the ACM then I guess you'd have to somehow splice the sound into the CD changer... maybe?
Anyway, pictures......
